Disadvantages: when its cold and wet

Visited Whitby at the weekend not realising it was Whitby Goth Weekend. I have never seen so many goths in one place - all dressed in full mourning gear - it was unbelievable! I have to say though hats off to them some of the costumes were fantastic.

Whitby has something for everyone. The scenery is fantastic and the harbour view is lovely. The abbey is well worth a visit and crabbing off the pier is great.

Lots to do for the kids including crazy golf, fairground rides and of course amusement arcades. Adults can enjoy the many bars and restaurants Whitby has - Trenchers is definately the best fish and chip shop around (although its not cheap). Vist St Marys church up the 199 steps its free and a lovely place to go to.

The boat trips from the harbour are very good value at around £2-£3 for a half hr trip.

There are loads of campsites and guest houses in and around Whitby - i would recommend Broadings Farm Campsite which is just outsite whitby and has lovely views over the sea.

Overall i think Whitby is a great place for the whole family to enjoy.

Summary: well worth a visit
