~*~ 'SOUNDING BOARD' ~ The Company ~*~
The Sony Corporation is a Japanese multinational and multi-industry company with its head quarters in Tokyo, Japan. Sony is among the leaders of electronic products among several other successful services and products.
The company was established by thirty-eight year old Masaru Ibuka and twenty-five year old Akio Morita under the name of Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K which stood for Telecommunications Engineering Corporation. Notably, it was the first company to have manufactured Japan's very first tape recorder.
It is of interest that the CEO, president and chairman of this multi billion company is a businessman that was born in Wales, Sir Howard Stringer!
~*~ 'SOUND WAVES~ Why The Purchase ~*~
Why the purchase ~ 'my name is Bond...James Bond'! It's all rather cloak and dagger stuff! I was dealing with a very inappropriately behaved landlord and was asked to keep evidence of his proposals; the naughty man! After which, I found the gadget to have various fun and other secular uses that included recording the children singing to their favourite pop characters and in my college studies.
~*~ 'SOUND EFFECTS' ~ My Experience ~*~
Mobility: With the recorder's neat Dimensions of 5.9 cm x 2.3 cm x 10 cm and the light-weight of only 110 g, its perfect to carry in a pocket or bag; I found this ideal, especially when already laboured down with student reference books! Additionally, it's not called the Microcassette Dictaphone for simply a fancy term. Transporting the little tapes is a cinch, the batteries weigh more! The machine comes with a handy black cord strap that easily fits over the wrist. This is a particularly practical constituent when I need to carry the device in my hand, as wearing this avoids accidental dropping of the recorder.
Recording: The recorder has the control buttons located on the top of the device. The first having a red circular symbol to indicate record. The middle larger button is for playing either forward or reverse. The last, same size as the record button is to stop play/record mode. When I use this component to record a lesson, I simply leave it on the desk and push the button to record as soon as the tutor begins. I have no worries about turning the tape after its thirty minute duration as it simply reverses itself; thankfully with no apparent noise to embarrassingly distract the class! I find the tape counter, located underneath the speaker, to be most beneficial. If the speaker is running over-time, I am able to monitor when the tape will run out of the hour's duration, in order to switch tapes to continue recording.
Playback: When I am analyzing my study material at home, playing back lectures proves to be invaluable. Due to the clarity of the sound coming from the 28mm built in speaker affords excellent clearness. With its 'Clear Voice Plus', as noted in red capitals on the front of the recorder, integrated sound system, amplifies and improves the sound not only during recording but also in playback mode. The three digit tape counter also assists me in finding specific sections much more easily.
I will often listen to the lessons on route home as the device comes with an earphone jack along with light-weight headphones that plug in with ease. The soft sponge padded ear phones make listening comfortable so I can happily playback without discomfort to my ears. As the design of these ear plugs are snug fit, the sound does not disturb other passengers on the bus. The 'Sony Acoustic Turbo Circuit' configuration affords even more improved efficiency in the sound quality by enhancing the bass sound.
One of the unique features I love about this instrument is the 'Voice Operated Recording' facet. This came in particularly handy as noted in the case of my previous landlord! There was no need to noticeably turn on the recorder. Once I had set the tool to record, it activated by sound; most apt when not wishing to alert the speaker!
The volume control is situated on the side of the apparatus, beside the ear jack and mic connections. The volume control is a neat small turn dial that I can easily operate. With the two AAA batteries supplying fifteen hours of usage time in this device, the expense of replacing has been affordable. Added to this, the three pack tapes currently available from Amazon for less than £5 makes these financially easy to enlarge upon.
~*~ 'MINISTRY OF SOUND' ~ The Negatives ~*~
For what I require, this has only one down-side, the price. I purchased this in my local electrical retail store for £49.99 but it can cost even more! I've seen it on line between £51 - £76. Therefore, it is well worth shopping around before committing to buy. I would also advice listing what you require from a recorder. These devices range from £16 plus, therefore, you may not need to pay higher prices if you don't need such features as auto reverse and 'Voice Operated Recording'.
~*~ 'SOUND BITE' ~ Would I recommend? ~*~
Yes, but only if the features mentioned are what the consumer needs. It's an expensive product due to the design elements, but there are far less costly models available if these aspects are not required. 4/5 Stars due to the cost!
