This is a review for "Bio-Selenium + Zinc tablets" (90 tablet pack) from Pharma Nord. You can never be too healthy, so with these antioxidant tablets offering to help maintain healthy cardiovascular, immune and reproductive systems, I thought I'd give them a go. Selenium is a natural mineral and has antioxidant properties which protect cells from damage. You can also get this from foods such as Brazil nuts and walnuts. Other ingredients, Zinc, Vitamin A, B6, C & E are important for skin health, eyesight and your brain, among other things. Zinc can be found naturally in foods like shrimp, pumpkin seeds and almonds. Here's the full list of tablet ingredients: Zinc (zinc gluconate) Bulking agent: Microcrystalline cellulose Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) Selenium (SelenoPrecise yeast) Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopheryl) Glazing agent: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose Firming agent: Silicon dioxide Glazing agent: Talc Vitamin B6 (Pyrridoxine hydrochloride) Glazing agent: Zein Anti-caking agent: Magnesium stearate Colour: Iron oxide, titanium dioxide Each tablet contains: Vitamin E a-TE 15mg Vitamin C 90mg Vitamin B6 (mg of pyridoxine) 2mg Zinc 15mg Selenium (organic) 100µg You are directed to take one of the dark red pills daily with food. It is suitable for vegetarians and should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet. The tablets aren't large so they're easy to swallow and the taste isn't pleasant so I'd suggest treating them like most other pills and washing it straight down with a drink. The tablets come in a box with a little window on the front that shows you a glimpse of the product inside. The contents of the box consists of three large tabs with 30 tablets on each, and you also get a rather substantial booklet that contains pictures and full details about the Pharma Nord Bio-Series range of products. Also in the booklet is a section that tells you why you should consider taking nutritional supplements from Pharma Nord, and explains such things as how important nutrients in our food are greatly reduced with modern food processing methods. A nice extra on the back page gives you the opportunity to win a year's free supply if you send them your feedback and they decide to use it as a case story. This product comes in three different pack sizes: 30 tablets, 90 tablets, 360 tablets. Current Amazon prices have the 30 tablet pack at £4.25, 90 tablet pack at £6.99 and the 360 tablet pack at £29.99. The best before date spans a number of years so even if you opt for the 360 pack you'll easily use them up within the best before period. In terms of health benefits I can say that my energy level does seem to drop when I neglect to take one daily, and I haven't had any major colds or illnesses in the months that I've been taking this product. When I initially looked at reviews before buying this product I saw nothing negative from anyone, so you can put me in with them too as another satisfied Pharma Nord customer.
This product is a selenium and zinc supplement also containing vitamins C, E and B6. For just under £4, you can get a packet of 30 tablets. The recommended daily does is one a day taken with food. I take mine at breakfast so I don't forget. I'm the only one in my household using this supplement, so £4 a month seems reasonable to me. I have taken selenium for many years during winter months to boost my immune system and ward off colds. I find that that taking selenium, together with a healthy diet and regular exercise has really helped with keeping the colds at bay. This past winter I have not had a cold at all. I also suffer from eczema and pale skin which is prone to sunburn. I read somewhere a while ago that zinc is very good for skin including protecting against UV rays, and there is some research to suggest that taking zinc is beneficial for skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, burns, boils and leg ulcers. The key word there is that there is "some" research, and much more is needed to be certain about the benefits of zinc. I started to take selenium with zinc about a year ago. To be honest I'm not sure how much benefit I get from the zinc in terms of my skin. I didn't get sunburnt at all last year, but then there wasn't very much sun! I haven't had any bad eczema flare ups for a year and a half, so I'm not sure if I can attribute that to the zinc element of these tablets. Although I'm not sure how beneficial the zinc has been to my skin, I do notice the benefit of the selenium during the winter months. For £4 a month, I think this is a good value for money supplement which really does help to boost the immune system.
Bio-Selenium + Zinc We had been trying for a baby for over three years and due to my medical problems alongside my husbands problems were only given a 1% chance of conceiving naturally. To help with my husband's side of things, he was recommended selenium plus zink to improve his count. We were dubious that a vitamin could help work miracles, but we had tried everything, and there was nothing I could do on my side of things as I had already had numerous operations, so we thought that there was no harm in trying. There were many selenium products on the market, though we decided to go for this particular product due to the recommendation of various people including the doctor and pharmacist, so we figured if we were going to spend money on something we really did not think would work, then we may as well go for the best recommended one. ******The Product****** Bio-Selenium + Zinc is an antioxidant complex tablet and mineral supplement which combines selenium with vitamins A, B6, C and E as well as the mineral Zinc all of which apparently work together in contributing to the body's mechanism for neutralizing free radicals. Apparently British soils are low in selenium which make the intake of selenium lower in Britain than anywhere else. This product boasts to hold the more easily absorbed type of selenium; L-selenomethionine, which is an organic form of selenium. The actual tablets are medium size, perhaps the size of a thumbnail (slightly bigger) and according to my husband quite easy to swallow, though it leaves a not so pleasant aftertaste. It is easier to swallow with some milk as the milk apparently helps it glide down better. ******Directions of Use and Other Information****** Unless otherwise specified by a doctor, it is recommended that you take 1 tablet a day with or after food. My husband took this regularly after breakfast (mainly because he would forget otherwise!). As with all products, it holds a warning not to exceed stated dose as it works like a medication and you can still overdose. It is also sugar and gluten free yet contains yeast. This is perfect for my husband as both he and I have a gluten intolerance. It does state, though, that it is not suitable for vegetarians. I am not sure if there is a suitable vegetarian alternative. This is also not suitable for pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding. Nutritional supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet. Ingredients: Zinc Gluconate Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) Selenium Yeast* Bulking agent: Microcrstalline cellulose Vitamin E (d-a-Tocopherol) Glazing agent: Hypromellose Firming agent: Silicon Dioxide Glazing agent: Talc Vitamin B (pyridoxine hydrochloride) Glazing agent: Zein Anti-caking agent: Magnesium stearate Colour: Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide As well as boosting the immune system, this product also shows that it helps to boost male sperm count and with reproduction is the main, prevent some types of cancer, aid and prevent cardiovascular disease and help improve ones mood! ******Packaging****** The tablets come in a medium sized rectangular box which comes in a creamy brown colour - not at all appealing, though I guess it wouldn't make children feel they are sweets! The front has a see-through opening to the side which allows you to see the size of the tablet, which is much better that a 'actual size' picture which from experience is rarely correct. There is little information on the front except the name and slight description of what the tablets are, though there is more information on the back, some of which includes the information I have mentioned above. The box is an easy side opening and the tablets are individually wrapped in a solid plastic sleeve which makes it easy to pop each tablet out by pushing the front and out of the foil backing. Each box contains 90 tablets. ******Costs****** These are not cheap, and I have seen cheaper alternatives for as little as a couple of pound on sale since then which possibly do the same thing. The RRP is £8.45 though we picked them up for £6.99. Do look around, though, as we have since seen some for as little as £3.00 in local vitimin shops. ******The Outcome****** Since beginning taking these tablets, my husbands count has over doubled which we believe could be through the selenium taken within this product and as a result perhaps, we fell pregnant with our 1% miracle baby who was born just over two years ago at time of writing this review. We haven't seen any improvement with his immune system, though, if anything, he has suffered more colds and bugs since, though this could also be down to the weird weather England has had of late. His mood has improved, though, but I do not think that this has anything to do with the tablets! Overall, these tablets helped boost his count which is the one thing he started taking them for. He also combined them with Brazil nuts which are high in selenium, so this may have helped as well. He mentioned that other than the nasty aftertaste, he has suffered no other side effects from taking this product, and I have not seen anything change within him apart from the mentioned good thing. Would I recommend this product? I can say that I would recommend it if a sperm count needs boosting or you have infertility problems as, as far as we can tell, it helped us have our miracle. For the other things stated, I can not say I recommend it for them as I can not truthfully say whether or not it helps. I would also recommend that you look around before purchasing as there are other cheaper options available on the market, and of course, consult the pharmacy or doctor before taking. We are now hoping for a little brother or sister for our little girl so fingers crossed for us.
