I have a been a big fan of the slim fast plan for years as I think that it is one of the best ways to drop a few pounds. The only problem with it is that it is quite restrictive and also it can become quite boring when you follow it for a long time.
Luckily for me I don’t have a big problem with my weight as I try and be as healthy as I can most of the time but occasionally I will get lax and gain a few pounds and these shakes are a great way for me to lose it again quickly. The most I have ever had to follow the plan is a couple of weeks but even in that short amount of time I get a bit bored by it.
The chocolate shake makes things that little bit easier as it helps to satisfy my sweet tooth craving. I think I’m right in saying that this is one of the original flavours that slim fast shakes came in when they first came out years ago and there is a reason that it has stood the test of time as it is one of the best flavours.
It is thick and very chocolaty tasting and I enjoy drinking this just as much as non diet chocolate milkshakes. For people with sweet teeth it doesn’t feel as though you are having to deprive yourself too much. Of course some people will miss the feeling of having solid food but for me I think the shake does a good job of making me feel full and satisfied for a few hours.
This is one of the few flavours that I would consider buying in the powder form and making myself because it is tasty enough that I can drink it more than the others but because I only follow the slim fast plan for a couple of weeks maximum I just find it easier to buy it pre made instead. It is more expensive but just easier for me to have when I am at work and only got 30 mins for lunch.
I personally decided to start the Slimfast plan where I started to gain weight and then one day, whilst I was on a shopping spree in Superdrug, I noticed that they had put all the Slimfast products at better than half price costing only £2.95. I was hesitant on whether this would work but I decided to give this a go nevertheless as the prices were truly good as it ended up being cheaper than Superdrug's own version of Slimfast.
Having bought 2 tins of shake powder, one being the chocolate version, I decided to start the Slimfast plan on the following Monday. The shake itself is so easy to make, you just need to add 250ml of skimmed milk to 2 scoops of the chocolate powder (the scoop is already provided which is excellent) and if you want, for better result, you can use ice and a blender. I personally had a shaker which I bought for a pound at poundland and it did the job.
After mixing, you end up with a lovely smooth chocolaty shake. The tin itself contains 12 servings so can last up to 12 days depending on what your 2 meals are. I personally had one chocolate shake and one vanilla shake so the chocolate tin itself lasted 12 days.
The chocolate shake itself tasted like chocolate so it was tasty but I do not know why but I felt that the shake itself had a weird aftertaste but I'm not sure, I may have done something wrong or it could be due to my shaker. Also, I found the shake very filling and it didn't leave my stomach rumbling during the day which I was pleasantly surprised about! However, I drink it very slowly to make sure it fills me up.
Another great benefit to this product is that Slimfast have fortified the shakes with all the essential vitamins you need, so you do not need to worry about that!
However, one worry I have about the product is the very high sugar content as in one shake alone when made with 250ml of skimmed milk, the shake contain 30g of sugar which worried me and that is the reason why I think this plan is only good in the short term!
Finally, YES Slimfast DOES WORK, as I have lost a bit of weight and since I only needed to lose a bit of weight, I have now stopped the plan and now resort to healthy eating and exercise
I've been with my boyfriend for just over a year now and had noticed the weight steadily creeping on, I suppose that's contentment for you. It was around the beginning of January that I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself and it was then that I had a huge shock, I'd put on just over a stone in weight - as can be expected I was horrified!
When it comes to dieting I tend to fail miserably, spending a week or so feeling extremely hungry and being a grump before falling off the wagon and ending up seemingly eating my own body weight in cake, willpower is something that unfortunately continues to elude me. I'd never tried slim fast before and was sinking into desperation so thought that quite frankly, anything was worth a shot.
I decided that I'd go for the milkshake powder and that instead of never having breakfast (usually I can't face food in the mornings) I'd make the effort to force a shake down. Out of all the flavours it was the heavenly chocolate that caught my attention, I'm not such a huge fan of milk so thought that the chocolate taste might make the whole experience that bit more bearable. I bought my 438g tub for £5.95 which is a tad expensive when it only produces 12 "meals" as such, the original plan is to drink 2 shakes a day, have 3 snacks to help you curb your hunger pangs and then have 1 healthy meal of your choice. I decided on the other hand to have a shake for breakfast and then a healthy lunch and tea, effectively giving me 12 days of shakes rather than 6.
Usually due to never having breakfast, by the time lunch comes around I'm ravenous and alas tend to go for the quick and easy option of convenience food. I didn't expect much from one measly shake but was pleasantly surprised when it did indeed fill me up till dinner, the taste was also a lot more yummy than I'd anticipated. The shakes are lovely and thick with a nice hit of chocolatey yummyness, it actually feels somewhat like a naughty treat rather than a diet food! It's worthy to note that each shake made up with skimmed milk equals less than 250 calories.
After a week I'd managed to lose 2 pounds, not a lot to some people but it spurred me on to continue with the plan; I've still got a bit to lose but am very happy with the results so far. If you're not a fan of chocolate then perhaps you'll enjoy some of the other flavours available, I've tried the strawberry and found it to be very pleasant though somehow not as filling, perhaps due to the fact it's not as rich.
If you're stuck in a rut then I really recommend you give slim fast a bash, at the moment boots have a sale on where you can pick up a tub for less than £3 so trying it out won't break the bank. I'm sure the product isn't for everyone but I personally have achieved success. To anyone reading this I wish you the best of luck on your weightloss journey.
Slim Fast Rich Chocolate Flavour Powder
About Slim Fast:
Slim Fast have developed into a complete diet plan business, part of the giant Unilever Group, Slim Fast has a huge research and development and marketing team, the latter being why it is so widely available and so successful. Their current system is the 3-2-1 plan where the consumer has 3 snacks, 2 Slim Fast Meal Replacements and 1 normal low calorie meal. I cannot vouch for that system, having never embraced it, as actually, I do not believe in slimming diets! (So, you have just said to yourself, why is she reviewing this product?!).
Read on and I'll explain:
Why I Buy Slim Fast Shakes:
Every now and again, I have ended up a little bit plumper than I would like, so I needed to watch what I was eating and increase my exercise. When I was younger a failing of mine was those oh so naughty milkshakes from fast food outlets. I remember the occasions as a child being taken to a Wimpy and the excitement being the milkshake! Gran, bless her bought Nesquick when it came out, to use when we visited her house, but it was not quite the same. So having grown up (and out a bit too) one day when I was in Boots, I noticed the Slim Fast on offer and bought a tin of the Banana Flavour. I tried it at first with ice cold milk and it was OK. Slim Fast were not producing the snacks and meal bars at that time, so I never got into the whole regime. However, what I did discover was that the milk shake filled me up for a few hours. So it was an ideal lunch when I was on the move. Much later still I also discovered that I could mix it with powdered skimmed milk, so all I needed for a quick lunch was a little jar with the 2 measures of powder and 1 of powdered milk in, a mug and a tea spoon and a supply of water. Ideal for days out when I was busy. For me Slim Fast became a healthy convenience option rather than part of a slimming regime. I do now use it thought, if I need to lose a bit of extra weight in a hurry, again, I don't follow the full regime, I tend to just replace five out of seven lunches with a shake and cut carbohydrates either partially or completely for a few days. The other great thing is of course, it is a milkshake I can enjoy guilt free!
I have over the years, tried all the flavours, but Banana remains my favourite, here however, I am reviewing the chocolate flavour.
The Chocolate flavour is not knock you out chocolate like for example the children's shake Nesquick. I eat a lot of chocolate it is my main weakness! I love dark chocolate and real chucky chocolate rather than confectionered bars, so why do I find the flavour of this not quite sweet enough? Maybe I have been drinking too many "Options" hot chocolates with all that sweetener? I find it very interesting that for a slimming product one of the main ingredients is sugar, but this does not come over in the flavour.
I don't know why sugar is such a main part of the product and when I first noticed I stopped buying it for a couple of years. But, I do find that the shakes are the easiest way to lose a few inches. In fact if I am sensible, by having two shake lunches a week, I can maintain a healthy weight quite easily and afford the odd cream bun or plate of chips!
Slim Fast Claim:
"A rich, decadent chocolaty delight you can mix up and enjoy as a meal in your Slim*Fast® 3*2*1 Plan. All of our Shake Mixes provide 1/3 of your required daily nutrition when mixed with skimmed milk."
The Slim Fast Powders are sold in quite big tins, similar to the ones baby formula comes in that stand about 113mm high, with a diameter of 100mm. They feature the red top with the Slim Fast logo, fading down to a warm orange and yellow that make up the corporate Slim Fast colour and feature splashing milk shake of the colour/flavour they contain. The plastic reusable lid covers a peal back tin ring pull lid.
The warnings on the tin are:
"If you are adolescent, pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition, want to lose more than 20% of your weight then talk about your weight loss plans with your doctor or dietitian.
Slim*Fast meals are not designed to be your only food - add a balanced nutritious meal and healthy snacks every day. Can only help weight loss as part of a calorie controlled diet and an active lifestyle."

One of the main advantages of the Slim Fast regime or for partial dippers in like me, is that the foods are so easy to use. For when you are on the go, there are individual portions of ready mixed shake, which are quite nice, but delicious when ice cold. For everyday a more cost effective and cupboard friendly meal is the powder version that is under review and some cold long life skimmed milk. Simply put 2 measures into a cup or mug and mix with a little milk, top up and mix or whisk to dissolve all the powder and drink slowly.
Served ice cold and especially frothed up this chocolate shake is quite delicious and satisfying. I occasionally use it as a hot chocolate drink and that is where it doesn't seem sweet enough. However, it is not marketed as a hot drink, I like to use it as such in the winter for a warm lunch though, so perhaps I am being unfair to compare it to hot chocolate drinks?! I like it - a lot. If I am seriously in need of dropping a few lbs it satisfies my chocolate craving whilst ensuring a balanced lunch.
I like the Slim Fast Shakes because I know that I can grab one on the go, or take some powder with milk powder to work for a quick lunch on day's I know I am going to be very busy and unable to stop. They are carefully prepared to create a balanced meal that is a 1/3 of my daily nutrients. I also know that they can help me lose a bit of weight if I need to. I think the sweetness has one advantage and that is usually after a savoury meal I crave something sweet. If this is all I have had, Obviously I do not get that craving, so it is sufficient to satisfy me.
The chocolate shake does live up to the claims in the tin.
Would I Recommend Slim Fast Rich Chocolate Flavour:
Yes, I have tried some of the bars and other snacks as well and they are OK. So, I expect the full regime is achievable and workable. However, for me the shakes to replace some meals and healthy snacks such as a few nuts or a small piece of fruit with low fat cheese are an adequate option.
I would say, this is a satisfying way of enjoying chocolate at lunch time, especially if you froth it up.
As mentioned at the top of the page, I am not a fan of slimming diets, neither am I keen on society's pressure on women to look a certain way. However, if you use this as I do as part of a mostly(!) healthy diet, I think you will be pleased with the results.
I would give this product 4.5 out of 5 if I could due to the high sugar content. However, I haven't given 4 Dooyoo stars.
Price and Availability:
I buy mine in store and on-line depending on where it is on offer! It is widely available from supermarkets, Amazon, Boots, Superdrug in-store and on-line. Usual price is around £5.95 for 12 meals. It is often available as a 3 for 2 somewhere.
Thank you for reading my review of one of the Slim Fast products I use.
Summary: Quick - easy - slimming lunch
So, over the past couple of weeks as summer has been creeping up, I've started to realise I need to lose some weight ready for my hols in Australia, in a couple of months. Being a very busy girl, I'ts been hard to stick to any sort of healthy eating regime. My job means I'm often on the go all day, and so I end up eating out or convenience foods in my car on the way from one job to another.
I spotted this in Boots the other day (on offer for £2.96!), and thought it sounded perfect for me as a kickstart, I could have a shake for breakfast at home in the morning and then make another one up and take it to work for lunch and store it in the fridge, and so far its worked really well.
The shakes are basically part of the 3.2.1 plan. You can either buy them ready made, or in powder form, which tends to work out much better value for money. Each tin provides enough shake powder to last for 6 days (or 12 shakes). The concept is that you add 250 ml of milk to two scoops of the powder, shake it up and your good to go.... in theory anyway! In reality, you need to stir or whisk very vigorously to avoid big powdery lumps. I have found that using a blender and ice (as suggested by the tin) works the best!
Price- I think the regular retail price is just under £6, which I think is good value for money, when you think your getting 12 shakes for that, so around 50p per shake. It is particularly good when you compare it to similar products such as 'celebrity slim' which costs around £24.99 per tin. However do look out for offers on this product as I managed to purchase a tin for £2.96 from Boots!
Taste- I actually really like the taste! It does taste quite creamy and chocolatey, I mean it's certainly no Galaxy milkshake, but as far as diet shakes go, its actually not bad. However, be careful if your just using a spoon or shaking it to mix it up as you have to really mix it quite vigorously or you will get lots of powdery lumps and they dont taste great!
Nutrition value- The shakes provide a 1/3 of your daily nutrients so if you follow the plan correctly, you should be getting all the nutrients you body needs- however the tin does advice that if you are an adolescent, pregnant, breastfeeding or have a medical condition to talk to your doctor first. I'm assuming its because you may need extra nutrients for you body or baby, that by solely following the plan you wont get.
Is it filling?- The golden question of does it fill you up? Well I was left feeling hungry the first few days, not so much with the breakfast one, it was the lunch time one. However after a few days I became used to the shakes and my hunger panks petered off. As part of the plan, you are supposed to have 2 shakes- breakfast and lunch, plus 3 healthy snacks, slim fast or otherwise, plus 1 healthy evening meal of approx 600 kcals, so its not a massively restrictive diet. I tended to snack on fruit such as banans or blueberries between meals to fill me up.
Does it work? I personally think it does work, but only as a short term diet. I dont think quick fix diets are ever great in the long run, but for me i've been losing a steady 2-3 pounds a week which I'm very happy with. In a couple more weeks I will switch to eating healthy and exercising that bit more, but for now, coming to the end of my masters degree and working loads of hours in a busy job on top, it suits my lifestyle in this short period.
I have never been able to follow a normal 'diet' as I have found that many diets often have more food in them than I would eat in a normal day, so I find it hard to lose weight as I don't eat a huge amount.
I started doing the Slim Fast diet after I had my first baby as I had an extra couple of stone to shift. The diet allows you to drink 2 Slim Fast milkshakes a day as well as 3 small Slim Fast snacks and then 1 healthy meal of your choice. This is called the 3.2.1 plan.
I have tried a few flavours of the milkshakes before, I am not a fan of strawberry and banana flavoured drinks in general but I have often bought the Cafe Latte flavour shake as its much like having an iced coffee. The chocolate shake to me though is by far my favourite. Not only does it have an intense chocolately flavour but it seems to be the only flavour shake that goes really thick and creamy. You make the shake up with 250ml of skimmed milk, along with two scoops (scoop included) of the chocolate powder. You can use a drinks shaker to mix it up but I prefer to use a hand blender, and I blend it for about a minute to achieve a really delicious thick shake.
Each shake is 230 calories when made with skimmed milk. I do find them very filling and they do see me through until my evening meal. I don't get bored with drinking them either, and they do come in a good range of flavours so if you think you might get bored then keep a few different flavours open at a time.
When I first did this diet a couple of years ago the tins were around £4.95 but having started doing the diet again now after my second baby I have noticed they have crept up to about £6 a tin which is quite expensive. But what I do is check the my supermarket website and most of the time you will find somewhere that has an offer on like 2 for £9 or 3 for 2 etc. And if you are lucky every so often Boots online reduce them down to £2.96 a tin, this rarely happens but I keep an eye out and stock up on several tins. I bought 12 at the beginning of January on sale and saved myself over £30! I thought I would save myself a couple of pounds one day and purchased a supermarket own brand chocolate shake and it was absolutely awful. I couldn't even finish the glass, it felt like it was sticking to my insides on the way down. You do get what you pay for!
Using this milkshake as part of the diet is great as they fill you up, you don't even need to follow the diet as it is intended, as if you just replace one meal a day with a shake they will help you lose weight.
Each tin hold 12 meals, so one tin lasts for 6 days. This I do find a bit annoying, why not just put 14 servings in a tin so it lasts a week?
Overall I have found this diet works well for me and the Slim Fast chocolate milkshake is a lovely creamy delicious shake, you certainly wouldn't know it is a diet shake!
You simply add two scoops of this power to a glass of milk (skimmed) and whisk until the drink is smooth. Whisking the drink takes a while as you need to whisk it properly so that no lumps form in the shake. The drink is around 200 calories per serving and you need to replace two meals per day with the shakes. You can also add fruit to the shakes so that you're not hungry. Sometimes a shake alone isn't enough to fill me up. The shakes taste pleasant enough, although they are a lot thinner in comparison to shakes sold in McDonalds, KFC e.t.c. The shakes contain vitamins and minerals so that you're not missing out on essential nutrients whilst dieting.
The shakes are an easy way to lose weight and Slim Fast is a reliable brand. They're good value too at around £4 per tub, although you only get around twelve drinks per tub so each tub will only last you for six days (based on two shakes per day). Also, the shakes become a little boring after a while. You start to become sick of drinking the same thing every day. You also have to follow the diet strictly in order to lose any weight. You can't just drink these alone thinking you will lose weight as you won't!
I would recommend these drinks. They do work but you need to follow a strict healthy diet whilst drinking them.
Worth a try to lose a few excess pounds :)
Around Christmas time I wanted to lose some weight and as I have lost weight in the past and maintained it I decided that I would give Slim Fast a go. As it turned out Slim Fast was very successful for me and in just 3 weeks I lost half a stone which I have since managed to keep off so far. I tried numerous Slim Fast products and this chocolate powder was one that I tried.
This chocolate milkshake powder comes in a tub with a plastic lid and each tub has a plastic scoop. I like that because it means I do not have to use the same scoop for different flavours of powder.
This milkshake mix is very simple to make up, just add two levelled scoops and mix with 250ml of very cold skimmed milk. Other milks can be used but obviously this will increase the amount of calories in this drink. I have found that if the milk is left to warm a little that these milkshakes are nowhere near as tasty as when they are ice cold.
The Slim Fast plan is very simple to follow. I chose to have milkshakes for breakfast & lunch and then have two snacks a day as well as healthy dinner in the evening. On a couple of occasions I had takeaways during my three weeks but I still managed to lose the half a stone I was aiming for. To stop myself from getting too bored I tried a variety of Slim Fast products and this chocolate powder was one that I used to make 4 days worth of milkshakes in total and there was some mix left over. Each milkshake worked out at around 60-70p instead of £1.50 that the ready to drink milkshakes cost. I mixed my milkshakes in to shaker to ensure that there was no yucky bits left in the mix. This only took a few seconds and was great.
I quite like this flavour, it is not my favourite but its close! I think that this does taste quite chocolatey but after a little while of drinking this flavour I begun to start disliking it a little. I would find that the final few mouthfuls were always a bit of a chore to drink as I had stopped enjoying it so much. This is a little bit artificial and while I did enjoying these milkshakes I only used them for a few days in total of my three weeks as the chocolatey flavour got a little bit boring and I fancied something different.
Overall I enjoyed the Slim Fast plan and I will definitely use it again in the future when I want to shift a few extra pounds. I was a little hungry and bored towards the end of my three week stint but then I was only intending on following the plan for a few weeks anyway!
As I need to shift some baby weight I'm currently on Slimfast!! I'm working my way through their products so will add the reviews as I try them.
The Slimfast container is metal with a plastic lid, so both can be recycled. The lid easily comes on and off. The Slimfast is a fine powder which is a chocolate colour. You measure out the powder by the blue provided measuring scoop which you will find in the tub.
To look at the tin it's obvious that's its part of the Slimfast range with its red and white writing. There is a visual of a Slimfast chocolate shake wave which is different and eye catching. The tin has nutritional values on the sides and states you get 230 calories per meal.
The Slimfast diet consists of 2 shakes, 3 x 100 calories snacks & a meal of 600 calories. I have the shakes for breakfast and lunch.
To make the shake up I pour 250ml of chilled skimmed milk into a measuring jug and add 2 scoops of powder and with a hand whisk mix it up. The shake goes a little thicker and frothy. It is sweet and does taste like a milkshake but be under no illusion it's not like one you will get from McDonalds!!
Having a drink for your lunch seems abit off an odd concept but it does keep hunger at bay for a good 3 hours but am always ready for a snack.
Slimfast claim their shake contains all the vitamins and minerals you need on a daily basis.
This is only a meal replacement and should be taken along side a meal aswell.
The first week of me following this diet I lost 7lb and the second week I lost 2lb. This is my third week so here is hoping. If you can stick to it the diet I think it's great. I really liked the Chocolate shakes and would definitely buy them again.
If you want to diet and fine food a real demon I would say give Slimfast a go and definitely if you like chocolate get this one.
Slim Fast Chocolate Powder
The Slim Fast Diet is an easy to follow quick weight loss plan. It is not something that is recommended for a long term use and after a while I can see myself getting bored of the shakes and the whole idea of the diet. However for now I have only been following the diet for around a month but have already lost well over a stone and am feeling far better for it. The diet is simple and not difficult to follow like some of these diets that have points systems and every food is a number which I just find impossible to follow. The idea with the Slim Fast 3, 2, 1 diet is that you have 3 sensible snacks a day, 2 shakes and then 1 sensible 600 calorie meal. I have found it easy peasy.
There are plenty of flavours to choose from when it comes to getting the shakes but there are more to choose from when you are getting the ready to drink bottle of the Slim Fast compared to the tubs of the powder which you need to shake up and mix yourself. I personally have bought all available tubs of the powder so that I have a few different ones to choose from and the drink doesn't get too boring and I fall off the diet wagon.
One of my tubs which I currently have is this Chocolate flavour one and I have to say it is really rather nice. Having tried the ready to drink Chocolate Slim Fast flavour which is really thick, smooth and creamy I decided I liked it enough to buy a whole tub of the mixing powder. This not only works out cheaper but there are less grams of saturated fat in the drink you mix yourself compared to the ones already made up for you.
A large tub of the Slim Fast will set you back £5 from Tesco and a little more if purchased elsewhere. As there are 12 servings per tub this works out to around 46 pence per drink which is a lot cheaper than the £1.50p cost of the ready to drink bottles. In the tub there is a total of 438 grams of the powder and inside it is sealed with a metal ring pull cover and in each tub there is a little clear plastic scoop to help get the right amount of the mix.
The shakes are easy to make up and all you need do is to add two level scoops of the dark brown powder into a mixer with 250ml of skimmed milk in. I find that if the milk is ice cold the shakes taste far better so a lot of the time I will measure out the milk into the mixing cup a good half hour before I want the shake and pop the milk in the freezer to get it as cold as it possibly can be. The mixing of the powder to the milk takes only a few good shakes and the drinks I have made up have never tasted powdery or grainy.
When comparing the chocolate shake that is ready to drink with this one that you mix yourself I find that the ready to drink one does seem a lot thicker and slightly richer but I think I honestly prefer the one I mix myself as it has a more Nesquick type feel to it. Of course having less saturated fat in by 1 gram also makes it a bit healthier mixing it yourself and the shaking of the mixing cup is also good for those bingo wings! The taste of the chocolate is really good and doesn't taste overly fake or plastic like which I thought it would. The taste is very smooth and really gets rid of any chocolate cravings that I may have had before drinking it.
Not only do I find these shakes enjoyable to drink but they do also fill me up until my next shake or evening meal and they have been helping me shift a fair bit of weight. I was always rather sceptical about the whole Slim Fast diet as a concept but this was before trying it and to be fair the amount of years that Slim Fast has been around surely goes to prove that this diet really does work. I find it easy to stick to and as yet have not got bored of the flavours that are on offer or indeed the whole concept of swapping meals for basically a drink.
The chocolate flavour is really nice and it is one that I shall continue to buy for as long as I am on this diet. I think that the added bonus of each shake giving you a whole ton of added vitamins and minerals is a really good idea because I expect that a lot of people don't get half of these in their regular diet. All in all I am a big Slim Fast fan now and I can't see me stopping this diet for a while or until I reach my target weight. I think that most people would be able to stick to it once they have got their head around the whole shake for a meal idea and there are flavours to suit most people as well.
I think another top score for this flavour of shake is in order so 5 out of 5 stars and a very high recommendation from me!
Give it a go - Summer is nearly here!
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
The first time I bought slim-fast milkshake powder was when I really wanted to lose a bit of weight and had been thinking of going on a no-eating diet such as lighter life. My mum pointed out to me that for the price they charge, it was worth trying slim-fast instead as the shakes probably contain more or less the same stuff.
I was a bit naughty and rather than following the plan (2 shakes a day, 3 snacks and one balanced meal), I had just 3 shakes a day in an attempt to lose some weight quickly as the tin states that one shake contains a third of the daily nutrients you need. I expected to feel really tired and unwell but in actual fact I had more energy than usual and felt less lethergic! This possibly may have been as I have eyes bigger than my belly and tend to eat more than I can handle which in turn makes me feel tired immediately though. Also, I expected to feel constantly hungry. Now, I did feel hungry but I think this was more when I smelled, saw or thought about nice food rather than because I was actually genuinely hungry.
Unfortunately/fortunately depending on which way you want to look at it, I did not stick to this for very long (only about 5 days) but in this short space of time I appeared to have lost about 5 pounds and my trousers felt nice and loose around my waist.
At the moment, I am trying a more sensible approach as I am going on holiday in 5 weeks and want to feel and look good in my bikinis so I have been having a shake for my breakfast and lunch and a healthy meal (such as chicken and wholegrain pasta) for my evening meal. When I am at work I generally find it quite hard to eat healthily as I don't think healthy meals taste as good warmed up and have the problem of hating salad so the only easy option is usually a sandwich of some sort which isn't the best thing to eat when trying to lose weight. Now I just leave a tin of slim fast in my drawer at work and add it to milk first thing in the morning and at lunchtime, it is a lot easier for me as it takes thinking about food out of the equation and makes me feel full without feeling tired.
The tins seem to be on offer at the moment at £2.99 in Boots and 2 for £7.00 in Asda which is extremely good value for money. You get 12 servings per tin so this works out to around 25 pence per meal!
The chocolate flavour is great, really chocolatey and satisfying if you're a chocolate addict like myself! The only tip I would give is to use a blender/hand blender if possible to mix the powder into the milk as if you just stir it in it tends to leave quite a lot of lumps (not unpleasant but some people may find it so) but blended it is just like a proper milkshake and isn't too thin and watery or too thick either.
Yes it's that time of the year when you've made your New Years resolution to lose weight infront of others so that you have to now do something about it and I am now trying to stick to my plan of losing weight, so I'm back on the Slimfast plan again.
This isn't the first time I have tried the slimfast plan and probably won't be the last. I'm not sure how long I'll last but for now it's been nearly two weeks and I'm doing ok.
Slimfast is now on offer at Morrisons at half price as I'm sure they know this is something that is going to sell well in the first few months after Christmas and they have it on sale for £2,99 which is a bargain if your trying to lose weight or have been on this slimming plan before and like it. I bought three 450g tubs as I plan to stick to this diet if it kills me. I bought three different flavours and this one Slim Fast Heavenly Chocolate is my favourite flavour as I have a very sweet tooth which is usually my downfall when it comes to me dieting.
The tubs are metal with a plastic lid that pops on and off for when you need to make your slimfast up for your meal. Inside the powder is chocolate coloured and you get a measuring scoop in the tub, the top of the tub has a peel back thin metal top with a ringpull to open it up, then you open it throw this thin metal top away and pop the plastic top in place for easy use.
The tin has lots of nutritional values on the sides and you get 230 calories per meal, you have two shakes which replace your breakfast and lunch and then a calorie controlled meal at dinnertime and this makes up the slimfast diet.
You can eat fruit in between the meals if you feel hungry and exercising will help you to lose more weight. So far I have lost four pounds which is not too bad and is coming off slowly, I have been told the slower you take the weight off the better it is for you to keep it off.
This is no miracle slimming cure and it takes willpower and stamina to stick to it as after a week on the milkshakes you get fed up of drinking them and have to keep telling yourself it's going to be worth it in the end. I have used this plan before and lost two stone in the past so I know that sticking to it can work. The older I get the harder it becomes to lose the weight but this slimming plan is the one I like.
The poweder you get in the tin has to be measured into a jug then mixed with milk, I use skimmed milk for less calories and then you once you have whisked it up the consistancy gets a little thicker like a milk shake but not frothy. You need 250ml of skimmed milk per serving. The milkshake does taste of thick rich chocolate and is sweet so it suits my taste.
This is nice to drink in tne morning for breakfast as it's easy and quick to make. If your at work during the day you can buy a bottle of ready made milkshake to drink or make this at home and take it in to work with you. It just helps you to resist snaking during lunch if you have it there ready made to drink at lunch time.
Does it fill you up ? well I think it does and it keeps the hunger away for a few hours, but I find that if I am busy during the day using up calories with housework or working doing my deliveries then I find I become hungrier quicker and have to eat a banana or other piece of fruit to stop myself getting a bar of chocolate or a packet of crisps from the garage.
I find that when I go on a slimfast diet I tend not to buy snacks in my weekly shopping trips as having the tins at home you don't have to keep going to the supermarket for snacks and munchies to watch the television with. I buy my fruit and veg and tins of slimfast and thats all, so it has saved me a bit of money.
You get all the vitamins and minerals in the powder so there's all your daily recommended doses in the shake.
This is only a meal replacement and you cannot just have the shakes and nothing else to eat, you have to use it sensibly as a part of your diet for it to work properly. This is not suitable for small children either.
The minerals it has in it are :_
Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Iodine, Potassium, Copper, Selenium and Manganese.
These are what the body needs to function on a daily basis, so it has a good balance of minerals for you.
The Vitamins in the tin are:_
A, D, E, C, B6, Riboflavin, Thiamin, Niacin, Folic acid, B12, Biotin and Pantothenic.
Remember to drink lots of water during the day to keep you hydrated.
It is made by Unilever in the UK and you can contact them if you have any inquires at freepost ADM3940 London SW1A 1 YR
All in all this is a good diet if you can stick to it, I like the flavour so find it easy to stick to and you can have two slimfast shakes then a meal during the day adding the calories intake to 1000 calories per day, with this amount of calories per day you can lose weight slowly and surely.
The product may have traces of glutton, egg and celery so may not be suitable if you need a glutton free diet or are a vegan.
All in all this is a diet I have tried before and it has worked for me and it's a product I will be buying again.
Wish me luck on getting into my summer dresses.
The slimfast plan involves replacing 2 meals per day with shakes as well as 3 snacks and one balanced meal. I've been on and off it for four years now. OK I know how this may sound but it works when you stick at it!
The shakes are balanced to give you the nutrients you need without the calories and come either as powder or ready to drink and in a variety of flavours
To make up the shake mix two scoops of the powder with 250ml of skimmed milk and it's easy to end up with a lumpy lunch. I've found that the trick is to add the milk slowly ensuring that all powder is mixed in and give it a good whisk with a fork before drinking. If you've got access to a blender or electric mixer then great but our work kitchen does not have anything fancy. I wouldn't go so far as to describe the chocolate flavour as heavenly but it isn't bad and I reckon that it tastes better through a straw.
A 450g tub costs about £6 and contains 12 servings so even with the milk factored in it is considerably cheaper than the ready to drink variety which will set you back about £1.60 per serving. I personally think that the ready to drink shakes taste better but I like to get value for money.
It takes more than a chocolate shake twice a day to lose weight and unfortunately willpower isn't one of the ingredients. I'd recommend the slimfast site and forums to be used alongside this product.
Everyone know sthat they are never going to be able to stay on a diet where 2 of your daily meals are a milkshake. However, there are times when you want to trim down a bit and quickly, in those circumstances, slimfast is ideal, but be warned. The minute you start to eat normally again you will put all of the weight straight back on.
I first tried Slim Fast when I wanted to fit into a dress for a birthday party. I had about a month to lose weight and at that time the plan was to have one shake for breakfast, one for lunch and then a 600kcal dinner. They have changed it a little now so that you can snacks as well.
I used the chocolate shakes because they were the only flavour I really liked. You just add two level scoops (the scoop comes with the shake mixture) to about 300ml of skimmed milk and mix it together. You have to mix it really well or you will get lots of chocolate lumps, which taste powdery if not diluted properly. I use a whisk to mix it together which seems to do the trick.
The shakes are not like a meal. They do satisfy a hunger craving and stop you feeling hungry, but you wont feel full on these - unless you hardly eat antyhing anyway.
I managed to stick to it - it wasn't easy at all and very difficult to watch my friends tucking into they rolls and baguettes at lunch. I stuck to it though and managed to lose about 11lbs in a month. I fit in the dress and had a great time.
Fast forward to 3 months later when I had come off of the milkshakes and was eating normally again (fairly healthy, 3 meals a day) and I had put the 11lbs straight back on plus another 4 extra to keep them company.
Slim fast now has the plan of 3-2-1. Everyday 3 snacks, 2 shakes/meal bars and 1 meal. This is a lot more sensible and must be a lot easier to do than the old plan. I would think you would be able to keep the weight off better as well.
As far as the taste of the chocolate shakes go, it is a very pleasant chocolately taste. It's a bit creamy but without being sickly and they do tend to be quite thick, which I really liked and enjoyed. I think some people might find chocolate milkshake for breakfast a bit sickly but I loved the flavour any time of the day
Before I even started them Slimfast diet plan my mom had already been on it for a few weeks so she had already tried a lot of the shakes that this brand has to offer. So when she told me that the chocolate flavour was far to sickly I dont know why I didnt listen but I went ahead and bought myself a small tub to test it out for myself. For those of you who arent familiar with the Slimfast diet these shakes are designed to be drank in place of two meals a day for me that is breakfast and lunch. These shakes are supposed to contain everything you need from a meal with less calories but they are supposed to keep you going until the next meal.
To make yourself one of these shakes you simply put two level scoopfulls into a jug (the scoop comes with the tin) and then add 250ml of milk and whisk. For best results I definately recommend putting this in the blender as then there will be no lumps or powder left behind. This looks and smells just like a proper chocolate milkshake and even though it takes some getting used to having a milkshake for breakfast if it fills you up and helps you loose weight Im happy.
I have to say while this looks and smells great the taste leaves a lot to be desired. This really is far too sickly and I think even chocolate lovers will find this too much for their taste and it is way to sweet for me - and NOTHING has been too sweet for me in the past. Even a real chocolate milkshake doesnt taste as sickly as this one does but I guess it doesnt taste fake or artificialat all so its not all bad.
These shakes do fill me up to a certain extent particularly the breakfast till lunch shake but Ive found because I dont enjoy drinking this much Im constantly watching the clock until the time I can finally have a meal. Id say this one fills me up for about 4-5 hours which isnt too bad but I reckon people who are planning to get on the Slimfast diet should try another flavour of shake first as other ones from this range are much nicer. It does fill you up but it makes me feel sick afterwards - maybe thats how it helps you loose weight?!
2 scoops of this with 250ml of milk is around 233 calories and are designed to be drank in placeof 2 meals and NOT as an ordinary drink. A 438g drum of this powder shake will set you back around £5 which isnt bad considering you can get at least 12 shakes out of that. Okay value but try and try before you buy as a lot of people will be like me and think its slightly too much!
