So, I'm a week in to my latest Slim-Fast diet. It is a diet I have used previously with success and one that I do find easy to stick to as it doesn't involve counting calories or weighing out food so it is pretty quick and easy. I had a baby in November and intend to use this as a kick start to lose the baby weight. I have about half a stone to a stone to lose and am hoping that after a couple of weeks on this, I'll have made a hefty dent in it. A week in, I have lost 5 pounds so I'm reasonably happy with it so far. The plan is simple, for those unfamiliar. You have two of the Slim-Fast shakes - one for breakfast and one for lunch and then you have a sensible meal in the evening. On top of this, you can choose 3 snacks - fruit and vegetables or one of the Slim-Fast snacks. This is, for me, where the plan has improved since I last used it. There are snacks available such as cheese and chive pretzels, chocolate bar type snacks and cheddar bites. These have really helped me stick to the plan as I can have something sweet if I crave it or crisps (I am a big fan of crisps so cutting these out is hard) as there are bbq tortillas in their range. For the shakes, I stick to vanilla and strawberry and have one of each a day so not to get too bored. There are also chocolate, banana and caramel shakes available - so again good if you have a sweet tooth. The shakes are simple to make, using skimmed milk and two scoops of powder (although difficult to mix so no clumps of power are left!). Ok, so I do get bored of just a milkshake for two meals rather than actually physically chewing food. However, the shakes don't taste bad at all and I really like the snacks - I usually have two a day together with an apple. It is, perhaps, not the cheapest to follow - snacks are 5 for £2 in most supermarkets and the shakes cost around £6 a tin (12 servings). The shakes, however, can usually be purchased on a deal such as two for £10 or three for £12 (which was the deal I used recently at Tesco). Overall, I recommend the plan as it is so easy to follow. Yes, I do get a little hungry but it's not too bad (and I need to reduce my appetite anyway). I can already see and feel the effects - my post baby belly is reducing and I feel trimmer. The scales are also showing positive results too - which is the main thing for me.
WHAT IS IT? Slimfast is a way of losing weight that you eat only one meal every day and your other 2 meals should be their flavoured milk shakes. It is called a meal replacing diet. HOW DOES IT WORK? You use low fat milk and mix the Slimfast powder into the milk, the powder mixes in very easy and it does not take very long. There are different flavours like banana, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla so that you would not get bored. You can buy bottles of Slimfast that is already made but they are very expensive and I think they taste thinner than the ones you make yourself with the powder. WHAT I THINK I think Slimfast is quite good but I have used it only for short times because I do not ever have very much weight that I want to lose. I do not feel hungry after I have had my breakfast milk shake but when I have my lunch one I do get hungry before it is time for me to have my dinner. I like that having the milk shakes stops me having to think very much about my meals and I can concentrate then on what I am going to cook for my main meal, you should count the calories that are in your meal but I do not because I rely on food that is healthy and low in unhealthy fats. I use Slimfast for 2 or 3 weeks sometimes and in those weeks I can lose 7lbs. I do not ever need to lose more weight than that and I am active but I snack too much on sugary food so I know that the Slimfast is helping for me to achieve my weight loss when I feel that my clothes are getting tighter. The Slimfast flavours all taste nice and I enjoy them, I think that the strawberry one is a little bit too sweet but I do not care about that and have it only when I want something sweet at lunchtime. I like to have banana or vanilla Slimfast for my breakfast. In the bottles you can buy one that is coffee flavoured but that is not pleasing to drink and made me feel a bit sick when I did try it. ANYTHING ELSE Slimfast powder costs about £5.50 for every tin and a tin will last for about a week if you use it twice every day like you are supposed to. 4 Dooyoo Stars.
I was always a size ten and then meeting my partner going out for meals etc I piled on the pounds and I have been a size 16 for just over a year. Last year I decided to do something about it. Knowing I would make a lot of mistakes if I went at it alone I decided to give slim fast ago. The Plan This involves: 1 Milk Shake For Breakfast 1 Mid Morning Snack 1 Milk Shake For Lunch 1 Afternoon Snake A 500 Calorie Dinner How it Worked for Me This was fine for the first two weeks when I lost just under 9lbs it was during the third week that the constant hunger began to get to me. The snacks can't be anything substantial and as by the time you get to them you are starving anyway! I also found the 500 calories dinner would only make someway in filling up the hole. Now I do admit I am a big eater (which explains the size 16) so may be this was not the plan for me but it was so difficult. By the fourth week I couldn't exercise probably as I would feel really weak and I would have an almost constant headaches and then the binges would come... The Binges I would be so hungry from this diet I would go to the fridge to get my prescribed low calories snack and would notice the a tub of potato salad or some maltesers that were for my partner and before I knew it the tub/packet was empty. Once that was eaten I would go for something else. I would eat until I was stuffed full and would spend the next however many days feeling guilty until it happened again. So What Did I Lose? I followed this for three months before I finally gave up and I lost a total of 18lbs considering the amount of time I spent starving hungry I really was not very impressed. When I went back to normal food full time it did just go back on. I would recommend this if you have half a stone to lose and just a couple of weeks to do it in - but this is not a full time solution. Price The tubs of milkshake powder vary greatly but I actually saw a reduction in my food bill.
After I had my son last year I was determined to lose the weight as quickly as possible, and was dedicated to dieting. I started slim fast when Kai was about 6 weeks old. There are lots of diets out there but because I've tried & had success with slim fast in the past I decided to go on a diet plan of 2 slim fast meal replacement shakes and 1 meal a day. I know how bad this sounds because I'd only recently had a baby and was breast feeding but I was desperate, in the end though after 5 days I decided to just have 1 shake a day and 2 healthy meals because even though I wasn't hungry with 2 shakes and 1 meal I knew I needed to eat more. Because the shakes filled me up so much I struggled to manage a big meal so would just have a big bowl of stew or soup or if I wanted a bit of pizza Id have some because I had enough spare calories. I bought 2 big tubs of the slimfast, both were different flavours. There are a few flavours that you can choose from which are chocolate, strawberry and banana. Even though I know slim fast is a diet product I completely was against the idea of getting the chocolate one (was worried it would make me crave real choc) and so I got the banana and strawberry ones. Each tub was about a fiver from Boots and there was 538 grams in each one. There are 12 servings in each 1 which I think is a good amount. The powder inside smelled quite nice when I opened the tub and the shakes were easy to make because you get a little plastic scoop. The tub says how to make the shake and it recommends 2 scoops with skimmed milk. Each of the shakes when made has got 217 calories and it tastes really nice once you get used to it. I prefer the strawberry because the banana one is a bit too sweet and fake tasting but both are nice. The drinks are really filling, especially when I drank them slowly. The sweetness took away cravings for chocolate and sweets but the taste did take a bit of getting used to because it is a bit more savoury than a normal milkshake. I lost nearly 8lb in 5 days of having 2 shakes a day and 1 meal (which was normally about 700cals) and then after a month of having 1 shake a day and 2 meals I'd lost all together 19lb, so it helped me loss weight quickly without feeling hungry or under nourished!
I have used Slimfast many times over the years, and still to this day will buy it if it is on offer. Each pot of powder is around £5 each. Sainsbury's have been doing this recently two for £5 so I have stocked up. I have only used the chocolate milkshake, they do strawberry (but strawberry is not my favourite flavour). Slimfast have also started doing snack bars, soups etc but I have only ever used the shakes. Each pot comes with a plastic red lid that keeps the rest of the tub airtight after the metal lid has been opened. You get a plastic red spoon, (similar to the type used with baby milk). You add two level spoonfuls to milk and replace two meals a day with this shake, then eat a balanced meal in the evening. In order for this type of meal replacement to work for you weight wise, you cannot be dependent on food or it is never going to work. For the first few days, you are going to be a bit hungrier as you are cutting down on the amount you eat. Until your body gets used to the smaller intake of food, you will need to use will power not to cheat. I do find with Slimfast, that although it may be a chocolate tasting shake, it doesn't taste like a Mcdonalds. It has a powdery texture and has a slight aftertaste but you are cutting down, if it tasted too good you would want tons of this per day, thus not helping yourself again. I don't find it that hard to stick to this regime of cutting out two meals a day and replacing them with shakes. They have a taste that I get used to and actually begin to like, if you have too much weight to lose, you may struggle with this method alone, get some exercise as well and it will be fine. If you are a few pounds overweight, Slimfast is the way forward. It is quite expensive but it does work, I would recommend it, if you can afford it, or check out when it is on offer.
Slim Fast is a weight watchers brand that provides advice and support when losing weight. They are also responsible for a wide range of slimming goods on the market. Slim Fast shakes are around £1.50 each and they are available to buy from most supermarkets. They are available in different flavours such as Banana, Strawberry and Chocolate. The shakes are designed to be meal replacements. They are packed full of vitamins and minerals and they're good for you as well as being good for your waistline. They are healthy, filling and tasty. You can also find Slim Fast bars in the supermarket. These are little cereal like bars that are designed to be snacks in the middle of the day. The bars help to speed up metabolism and they taste great too. They really satisfy a sweet craving! These are around 50p each, depending where you buy them from. Slim Fast shakes can also be bought in larger sized tubs. You simply add the powder to a glass and fill the glass up with milk, skimmed milk if possible. These are also suitable for lactose intolerant people like myself as you can add soya milk to the powder. These are also very tasty and healthy. Slim Fast is a great brand. Their products DO help you to lose weight but you have to follow the guidelines. Their products aren't cheap but they're made well and they contain essential nutrients that people often forget about when losing weight. A good slimming brand for everyone.
Like most women I always seem to be watching what I eat. I had tried various diets in the past and had varying levels of success. One of my friends had recommended this diet so I thought I would give it a go. Slim fast now have a variety of meal replacement products available ranging from shakes to snacks and meal bars. The basis of the diet is the 3-2-1 system, this means that each day you can have 3 snacks which are 95 calories each, 2 shakes or meal bars which are designed to help you replace two of your three meals a day it gives you the flexability to choose which meals you replace. Each day you then have to have a nutritionally balance 600 calorie meal, there are recipies and suggestions on the Slim Fast website. The diet is said to be nutritionally balanced offering all the vitamins and minerals you need. There are a variety of flavours of shakes available such as banana, strawberry, vanilla and latte. You can buy the shakes pre made which I think can work out quite expensive they cost around £1.57 in the supermarkets. You can also buy shakes in a powder form, a tin of powder will give you 12 meals and costs £5, you simply add skimmed milk. You can also get meal replacement bars which look like cereal bars and cost about £4 for 4. The snacks which include pretzels, tortillas and chocolate snack bars range from 39p to 56p. When I started this diet I decided to buy the powdered milkshakes to save money I also picked up a few meal replacement bars as well as a basketful of snacks. The first day was pure hell! I decided to start the day with a meal replacement bar which I thought would be convenient for me to eat in work. I start work at 8am so I ate it about 7am. The bar was pleasant it was a cereal type bar with a thin layer of chocolate on the bottom. It was no bigger than a normal cereal bar. I felt like I had hardly eaten anything. I had two snacks in between breakfast and lunch, I had one packet of pretzels which were sour cream and chive. The pretzels were bland and didn't taste anything like sour cream! I also had a caramel chocolate snack bar which was two mouthfuls and tasted like it was full of artificial sweetners. For lunch I made myself a banana milkshake which was simple enough it involved mixing the powder with skimmed milk. The milkshake was ok, it tasted like the banana foam sweets, the one thing I noticed was that there was a powder residue despite me shaking and stirring the powder vigourously. I had another snack in the afternoon which was another sickly caramel bar before cooking dinner at 6pm. I have to say as dramatic as this sounds I felt like I was starving I had the shakes and I felt really faint. Even though the diet is meant to keep your metabolism running I felt a lack of energy. For dinner I had grilled salmon and a load of green veg with a few potatoes. After the main meal I felt fine again. I thought it may be because I wasn't used to eating so little so I decided to stick to it. In the first week I was still feeling hungry anf grouchy. I stuck to the diet and didn't cheat once. At the end of two weeks I hadn't lost any weight. I read the online support groups to try and help beat the cravings I then decided to give up this diet and do Slimming World instead, on which I successfully lost 2 stone. I wouldn't recommend this diet I don't think it is sustainable, I would much rather eat a balanced healthy meal that releases energy slowly than have a processed bar or shake. I am convinced the reason I didn't lose weight is because I wasn't eating enough, after joining Slimming World I have realised the key to losing weight is not just reducing calories it is about eating the right foods. I would never do this one again! to all of you considering it try Weight Watchers or Slimming World where you can eat everything in moderation and you get a nutritionally balanced diet.
"At Slimfast, we believe that losing weight should be a pleasure..that you should be able to enjoy a variety of foods that are delicious as well as nutritionall balanced. Because if you're happy with what you're eating, it's easier to stay motivated and success will follow" Slimfast have a wide range of products, from milkshakes to snack bars, which are designed to aid you in weight loss, if you follow Slimfast's weight loss plan. **The Plan** The weight loss plan is as follows: Healthy start - Slimfast smoothie, shake or meal bar. Morning snack - some fruit or a Slimfast snack bar Lunchtime - Slimfast soup, smoothie, shake or meal bar Quick treat - Slimfast snack bar or a bag of savoury snacks Evening meal - Prepare your own healthy 600 calorie evening meal Me time - Low fat dessert or Slimfast snack bar. You do not have to follow the diet in this order, but the jist of it is you have two Slimfast 'meals' a day and your own 600 calorie meal. With a few snacks in between. **The Shakes** Whenever I follow Slimfast I only ever drink the milkshakes, as most things in the range seem to be too expensive for me. These shakes come in two forms, ready made in a small bottle or a 438g tub of powder to mix your own shakes. I always buy the powder and mix my own shakes, this is very simple. All you do is take 250ml of cold skimmed milk, ass 2 level scoops of powder to the milk and mix. It is recommended that you cover the mix and shake it for 20 seconds or use a blender and add ice. I must admit, I really do not like the taste of these milkshakes. No matter how I mix them, they always seem to taste like plastic and I always find a lump of powder at some point. If I have forgotten to mix my own shake, I will buy a pre-mixed bottle from the shop. I wish they would tell us how the pre-mixed drinks are made because these taste absolutely gorgeous! If I could afford to, I would drink these all day, every day!! Both forms of milkshake come in a wide range of flavours, including strawberry, chocolate and banana. **Price and Availability** The majority of the Slimfast range can be found in most supermarkets and health and beauty stores. The powder milkshakes RRP around £5 but tend to be on offer a lot of the time, usually on BOGOF. The small pre-mixed shakes are usually around £1.20 and the snack bars vary in price depending on what you pick up. The cheapest option is to but the tubs of powder mix and make the shakes yourself as these tubs contain enough powder for 12 meals. **Does it work?** I usually follow the Slimfast plan for a couple of weeks at a time, and find I will lose around 4lbs in that time. Obviously, this is with the aid of regular exercise, as well as living on milkshakes. **My Opinion** I can only ever last on this diet for around 2 weeks as I get very bored, very quickly. As I buy the shakes in powder version, I tend to alternate between 2 different flavours throughout the diet and get sick of the same taste over and over. Also, the fact that when I mix the shakes they never seem to taste as nice really puts me off them, and I begin to feel sick when I drink them. I do think the Slimfast diet works though and if you had a range of their products at home to choose from, this may motivate you to keep going. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy everything on their menu. I would recommend Slimfast but it seems to me that it is a long term diet option, so if you're looking for a quick fix it probably wont help.
Hi I'm new to dooyoo. This is my first review I hope you find it useful.I have tried slimfast many times over the years, but, like most diets it did not work,I felt hungry,deprived..."Bored"... I tried the new slimfast a few weeks a go...I love the cafe late flavour,at 220 calories it is about the same amount of calories as other iced coffee's but with the added advantage of added vitamins & minerals... My other favourite flavours are the new raspberry crush & limeted edition lemon meringue...They are very tasty...Taste like milk shake rather then a powdery meal replacement with a after taste... There are quite a few other flavours to choose from...The origional chocolate, strawberry, banana & vanilla...Plus other new flavours like forrest fruits...There are also smoothies, snack bars & slimfast pasta & soup meals... I recommend, like with all diets, drinking lots of water whilst on the slimfast diet. The benefits of water is another review lol... As the plan says "Slim·Fast® 3*2*1 Plan"...3 snacks,2 shakes,1 proper meal of approx 600 calories...Off I go to try again lol...
Ok so I'm not overweight but decided to go on Slim Fast as it seemed an easy and hassle free way to lose weight and to give moral support to my mother who is also on it. We are both now on week 3 and have both lost weight - i have lost 8 pounds going from 10 stone 6 to 9 stone 12 . The milkshakes are lush as are the chocolate bars and I have found it really easy to follow and after the first week ( which is a killer by the way) you get used to only having like 1350 calories and no longer feel starved. It also makes you less able to eat big portions so in the long run works well :) I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to lose weight and get results whether overweight or just wanting to lose a few pounds.
Having spent so much time on dooyoo recently with a cup of tea and a packet of biscuits I am sorry to say that my clothes have grown a little tight, so having previously tried every diet under the sun, I decided to give the Slimfast 3-2-1 plan a go. I found out about this plan from the slimfast website which I found really useful and informative. What is the 3-2-1 plan anyway? ----------------------------------- Basically during the day you eat: 3 Snacks 2 Shakes or meal bars 1 Healthy meal The snacks consist of 95 calories and come in the form of bars or little packets of pretzels, these can be quite expensive and I have not found them in multi-packs yet so you do have to buy them separately. For your three snacks a day, you do not have to stick to slimfast products, you could replace these with a piece of fruit such as an apple or an orange, but given the choice between an apple and a caramel bar, the caramel bar wins every time for me! Shakes and meal bars - You can have two of these a day and I normally have these at breakfast and lunchtime, they come in different flavours. You can buy the ready made milkshake which is around £1.80 for a 325ml bottle, it tastes great but personally I find this way too expensive. An alternative to this is to buy the drum of Slimfast powder which is on offer at the minute in boots for £3.99 and this has approximately 12 servings. To make this up you need 250ml of skimmed milk and two scoops of the powder, then give it a good shake and hey presto! In my opinion the taste of the milkshakes is ok but do not be expecting anything too fancy, lets face it a shake made with skimmed milk is never going to be that exciting no matter what you do! The mealbars are an alternative to the shakes but again can also work out quite expensive. 1 Balanced meal a day is also part of the plan. On the slimfast website it gives you recipes and ideas of what to eat and should ideally consist of 1/3 starch 1/3 protens and 1/3 vegetables. In my opinion the other big bonus of the slimfast plan is that you can buy slimfast online from boots and it is delivered straight to the door! I personally was really impressed with this as I would of found it a little embarrassing going to the till in Boots with a basket full of slimfast! Some people might be comfortable with this but I am not! Last week I bought 21 snack bars (7 days worth) and 2 tubs of powder (12 days worth) for around £30. All that I needed to add to this was 500ml of skimmed milk every day and a healthy dinner. Some people might find this quite expensive but it can be as cheap or expensive as you want, you can substitute the snack bars and only buy the powder which is £3.99 at the minute in boots (on offer) and this does you for six days. My partner and I would spend £20 on a take away and that would only be one meal so its not too bad value, I think. I personally would really recommend the caramel bars, they are chunky, tasty and covered in chocolate and around 100 calories!! In my opinion, it is a real novelty being able to eat chocolate bars and milkshakes while on a diet but this might not suit everyone. At the minute it is working for me so I am going to stick at it for a while. I think that dieting and eating is a very personal choice and I love milkshakes, pretzels and toffee bars so this diet is perfect for me. I am only a couple of weeks into it so I will keep you updated on my trouser size in due course!! I think the main thing is to stick to the plan and we will see what happens!! Also, I worked it out and you are getting around 1500 calories per day, combined with exercise and at least 2 litres of water how can it go wrong???
Before going into the review of this diet I should probably inform you that I am not overweight so I can only really comment on how it has affected me and you should probably bear in mind that on an overweight person, the effects of Slim Fast would be much greater than with me. The reason why I chose Slim Fast is that I had used the programme before. In a time when I was a little overweight I used Slim Fast to lose weight and I did keep it off. So with the summer holidays looming and wanting to get into last years wardrobe and not buy a whole new wardrobe, I thought I would give it a try again just to shed those few winter pounds. Slim Fast is a meal replacement programme, meaning you substitute two meals a day with a Slim Fast product and then have three snacks of fruit or a special Slim Fast snack and a 600 calorie evening meal. The products have vitamins and nutrients in them so you don't need to stock up on multi-vitamins as two of the products with some fruit should cover you. Since I last did this diet a few years back they have changed the rules slightly. They used to suggest three snacks under 100 calories but I presume the marketing department wanted to sell more snacks so decided to no longer push that as an option. I still think it is better to have your own snacks though, as the Slim Fast products are not cheap and sometimes I fancy something a bit more exciting than a piece of fruit. The Slim Fast meal replacements consist of either a milkshake or a bar (I miss the pasta and soup products they used to do). I chose the milkshakes so I can't really comment on the range of meal bars. The milkshakes come in a variety of flavours: strawberry, banana, forest fruits, chocolate, vanilla and cafe latte. My favourite for the morning is a cafe latte with a chocolate for lunch. The shakes can be purchased individually, in a pack of six or you can buy a tub of powder to mix your own with skimmed milk. Personally I think the individual shakes taste better and I hated the powdery ones because they did taste, well...powdery! They are quite delicious but best after being in the fridge. The chocolate one taste a bit like those Frijj milkshakes and I find that I do actually look forward to them. The pros: There is no issue with portion control. I know what I am going to have and I can't go overboard with the portions. I enjoy not having to prepare food and it is great to have a shake at work like a drink and then have the entire lunch hour to do what I want! They taste nice and thick and sweet. 600 calories is quite a lot for a meal so you can at least have one really satisfying meal and if you are going out it is possible to have a reasonable meal at a restaurant or eat a low cal meal and have a drink. The cons: If you are more of a savoury person then this diet doesn't offer much for those two meals a day. Hence my comment about missing the soups and pasta meals. You do get hungry. I find that the first part of the day is easily but it's the time from about 5 until I get home from work at 7 that I find myself struggling. This means I am more likely to binge when I get home. There is not too much variety and after a week I am usually fed up of the diet. On the weekends it is particularly monotonous. You can change flavour of milkshake, I suppose. I just get fed up of milkshake in general though. You may not like the fact that if you buy the milkshakes individually then everyone is likely to know you are on a diet and I was constantly explaining I wasn't out to lose massive amounts of weight, just a few pounds for my holiday. It is ok if you are at home or work when you can put it in a glass but on the move it is a walking advertisement. Does it work? Just like any diet works, if you follow it properly. I lost 4lbs in two weeks, which was really all I wanted to lose. I am now 9st 4lbs at 5"9 so as I said I am really not overweight at all but just didn't want to spend money on buying loads of new clothes because last years were tight. Now my clothes fit comfortably and so Slim Fast did the job. I also exercised during this time so I can't give all the credit to Slim Fast. I also cheated with higher calorie snacks because of the exercise. I imagine very overweight people would see faster results without having to exercise but to be honest you do have to really want to lose weight badly to stick to this. I personally couldn't do this for very long even though I managed before. Knowing I don't really need to be doing it means that I could stray without great consequences. I think if you have a lot to lose I would recommend this for a weight loss kick start and then seriously start examining your diet for a more permanent way of eating healthily. You have to have great willpower to do this diet for extended periods of time. However if you do have a special occasion coming up and it's only a few pounds you need to lose I think this is just the thing. My clothes are comfortable, I'm back to last years size and it was only a couple of weeks of hard work. Well worth it, I would say.

I'm making a website on weight loss or a blog and i could hope that some of you can get involved and help others lose weight! ~Update 4th October 2009~ ~How To Prepare The Shake~ Take 250ml of cold skimmed milk. Add 2 level scoops of powder to milk. Cover and shake for approximately 20 seconds (for best results use a blender and add ice). Aswell as that Slimfast is not a thing where you just gain weight straight back. What you really have to do is have the slim fast, And EAT really wisely and exersice properly when your back to normal, I'm abit of a Exerice Junkie now o.o.
A classic diet plan! Nowadays the Slim Fast diet plan centres around the following model: Breakfast- Slim Fast Shake, Slim Fast Smoothie or Slim Fast Meal Bar Morning Snack- Fruit, Veg or Slim Fast Snack Bar Lunch- Slim Fast Shake, Slim Fast Meal Bar or Slim Fast Soup Afternoon snack- Fruit, Veg or Slim Fast Snack Dinner- Prepare your own meal of 600 calories Evening- Slim Fast Snack Take note of the amount of times I've written the brand name Slim Fast! As you can see you are intended to consume an awful lot of their products!!! This diet plan does, however, work. Its a simple calorie controlled diet. Providing you stick to the plan and do some exercise you are pretty much guarenteed to lose some weight. Slim fast Shake powders can be bought for around £6. Each tin contains 12 servings. That's 50p per meal (plus the cost of some skimmed milk) which works out cheaper than stuffing your face quite frankly! If you are going to commit to the diet I would strongly suggest buying a couple of tins of different flavours. The same flavour for breakfast and lunch every day for a week is boring, depressing and highly likely to de-motivate you. On the bright side the shakes are lovely and creamy when mixed well. A blender will help... I'm a banana girl myself :) A word of advice about their soups and snacks... Take a look at the Nutritional information and then look at normal versions of the items in the supermarket. You will most likey find a tinned soup that a) has the same nutritional value as a Slim Fast Soup b) tastes nicer and c) costs a fraction. Same goes for their snacks. A small Kit Kat only has about 7 more Calories than one of their chocolate snack bars and they are far far cheaper. I did not stick to a rigid Slim Fast diet. I used it as a model and substituted some of the products for cheaper and equally effective products. I did lose a lot of weight. My BMI in January of this year was just a fraction off being Obese. I stuck to my diet, I exercised and by May I had a healthy BMI of around 25. I am now my 'ideal weight' and I am extremely proud of what I achieved with hard work and Slim Fast milkshakes coming out of my ears!!!
If you have had the chance to read my previous reviews you'll know that I'm getting married in November. So for that reason I decided I wanted to lose some weight for the big day. I have previously tried various diets and never been able to stick to them. My other option was the Cambridge diet but with the costs every week I didn't really see it as an option. One day at work as was chatting to a colleague who said she was starting the Slim Fast diet and we decided to do it together. That night we went through to Tesco to buy what we needed. I was surprised by the amount of things they now have in their range. When I was younger I remember my sister doing it and there only being the shakes. Now you have the option to choose from powder to make your shakes, ready made shakes, smoothies, meal bars. There are also snacks which include pretzels, cheddar bites, caramel bars and peanut bars. Within all the varieties there's also a variety of flavours including vanilla, chocolate, banana and strawberry. There are also more varieties in the smoothies which include forest fruits, peach and mango and raspberry. Price For the powdered milkshake it will cost you about £4.40 which lasts 6 days if you are using it for your breakfast and lunch. This was my first option as it worked out a lot cheaper to do it long term. For a ready made bottle of shake or a smoothie it was priced about £1.36 but there is often offers to buy these for £1. I bought a few of these to try and also for days when I'm out and about and I'm not able to make my powdered shake. The meal replacement bars were £3.69 for 3 which I never tried due to the fact that they were so expensive and I actually thought they were way over-priced considering how cheap the powdered milkshakes were. The snacks were priced reasonably but if you are going to try this diet I would say it's worth shopping around as I found the snack bars priced between 33p - 49p and the pretzels/ cheddar bites price from 34p - 52p. I did buy a few of these to begin with. The Diet It seemed straight forward enough all I had to do was have a shake in the morning, one at lunch and then a 600 calorie meal for my dinner. I could also have 3 snacks per day, which was one for morning, one afternoon and one in the evening. The snacks you could have was anything sort of low fat and low in calories. I stuck to their snacks to begin with and fruit but as my diet went on I introduced other things like Muller rice, ryvita minis and snack a jacks. What to drink - I have been drinking loads of water as it fills me up and is also really good for me. I was never a fan of just plain water but I am beginning to enjoy it now. I drink a cup of tea on the odd occasion and think I have 2 in the past 3 weeks but instead of semi-skimmed milk I used skimmed milk. How I got on Ok so I had it in my head that for the first four days I would be starving. In the morning I got up with a little excitement at starting this diet, it was something new and I hoped it would all go well. I decided for breakfast to have a ready made strawberry shake as it was easier than making up the powdered shake. I had put these in the fridge the night before so they were nice and cool. I shook it well and removed the cap and foil lid. First mouthful was fine, I wouldn't say I loved it but I was pleasantly surprised how like normal shakes it tasted. By the time I reached the end I was enjoying it more and I actually couldn't wait to try the next one at lunch. Half way through the morning at work I felt myself missing a bit of chocolate so luckily I had taken a snack bar with me. I tried the peanut bar which tasted very similar to a snickers bar and although they are the size of a snack size snickers it was more than enough for me. Off I went home for my lunch and I read the instructions carefully on how much skimmed milk I needed to add to the powdered shake. It was 250ml skimmed milk required and I needed to add two level scoops of the powder. Within the powdered milkshake tin there is a scoop supplied which is really helpful so you know you're putting in the right amount. I decided to use a whisk to mix it together so there were no lumps left as I heard it doesn't mix right if you use a fork or spoon. Again I was happy with the taste of this but it was quite sweet. After drinking it I didn't feel hungry so that was the main thing. At night I stuck to my 600 calories and had loads of vegetables with chicken. It was fine and I did think that 600 calories was a lot for a meal and only used 400 calories but it's surprising how quickly calories add up. That evening I stuck to eating fruit as a snack and went to bed feeling good that I managed to complete the first day without feeling starving. All set for day two. Over the next few days I was happy with the amount I was getting to eat and even though I was only doing it for a couple of days I could start to notice the difference, my engagement ring which is normally quite tight was now loose on my finger. Even my trousers started to feel loose. After the first week I decided it was time to do a weigh in. Thankfully I had remembered to weigh myself before I began so now I would know exactly how much I had lost......... I couldn't believe my eyes - 7lbs in the first week! I knew I had lost weight but really half a stone? I was jumping for joy and it made me even more determined to carry on with it. Over the weeks the weight lost has slowed down. I have been doing it for just over 3 weeks and have now lost 10lbs in total which is fantastic but now I am going to have to introduce a lot more exercise to my life to bring my weight down a bit more. Time to stop using the treadmill as a clothes horse then! My overall opinion The first four days were meant to be the hardest but I found myself enjoying it. I don't know if this is because I know I am doing it for my wedding but all the same I found it so much easier than any other diet. It has also pushed me into eating more fruit and veg and less crisps, bread and chocolate. I can't say I miss anything I'm not eating anymore, as the scales show my weight going further down that happier I am to carry on with it. I have done it for just over 3 weeks now and I have decided that after the 4 week mark I will stop drinking the shakes and start introducing healthier meals for myself. It really has given me the kick start I needed. The only down side was I felt myself having a really sore head most of the day. I tried to get rid of this by drinking loads of water but sometimes it didn't go away until I had eaten my evening meal. I do recommend this if you need the kick start to a healthy diet.
