Amethyst iPig iPod Speaker Dock
Advantages: sound quality is excellent, looks amazing
Disadvantages: is heavy, may be to cutsy for some
I've had an ipod for years now (is there anyone who doesn't own one?) but I've only ever used it for when I am out and about and stuck to CD's in the house. This all changed when for my last birthday my lovely best friend bought me the Amethyst ipig docking station. As soon as I unwrapped and seen the ipig in all its glory it was love at first sight. Who could resist such a cute looking pig? I didn't really expect to use it all that much as from the look of it, it seemed to be more of a novelty item rather than a serious set of speakers. Well looks can be deceiving.
Setting up the ipig out of the box was so simple and really I think the type of people who are going to love this item are not going to be the most proficient with technology like me. All you have to do is plug it in to the socket and then attach to the ipig and you are ready to go. It comes with different adaptors so is compatible with all the ipods available and you just put your ipod into the correct adaptor and switch it on at the back. The ipigs little mouth will light up green to tell you that it is switched on.
The sound quality that comes from this little piggy is absolutely amazing. The manufacturers give all the usual guff about how is has a 4 inch sub, bass reflex system, tweeters, 1.5 inch drivers, 2.1 sound track, blah blah blah. What this translates to in the real world is an incredibly rich crystal clear and impressively loud speaker for your music. The bass is great and you can really crank it up and dance along with your favourite tune. What I was saying earlier about looks being deceiving is true with this speaker, to look at you would never think that it could give off sounds this good and really does sound like it is coming from a speaker at least 4 times the size.
The good thing about when you have your ipod connected to the ipig is that it also charges it for you which I love as I am always forgetting to charge mine.
The ipig that I got is a metallic pink colour and is absolutely gorgeous. It's really vibrant and shiny looking and it looks great sitting on my shelf. It is available in other colours as well including black, white and yellow if the pink is a little to in your face.
It can also be used with other devises that aren't ipods including mobile phones and laptops via the 3.5mm cable that is included in the box.
Controls are really simple with the ipig, to turn up or down you just have to touch the ears of the pig and it also comes with a remote control. There isn't really a lot of extra features with the ipig it is basically just an excellent speaker that also just happens to look brilliant.
I am absolutely thrilled with my ipig and use it all the time but it's cute looks won't be to everyone's taste and as a portable speaker it is rather heavy to be carrying around with you.
I'm not sure the exact amount my friend paid for the ipig but a quick look on Amazon shows me the pink one is currently selling for £44.95 which seems a bit of a bargain for this gorgeous little piggy and a snip compared to a lot of the higher end docking stations which I'm sure will struggle to offer the same level of sound quality as this one. Highly recommended!
Summary: A brilliant docking station that is also extremely cute
