Advantages: Nice colours, good attention to detail, great quality
Disadvantages: Official Apple price
Back in 2002 when I bought my first iPod, I also decided I wanted a 'sock' to go along with it. The iPod socks are made from a thick, durable fabric which looks almost knitted in texture, and keeps your iPod snugly warm!
The real purpose is of course to protect your iPod from scratches and so on - however it's more of a novelty than a good way to protect your iPod from damage. If you're keen to take good care of your iPod, especially if you're carrying it around a lot, you'll want to buy a solid (preferably shock-proof) case - with good reviews of course! This sock is more for showing off your iPod, or prevent it from getting dirty/dusty when sitting around in your house.
The sock is more like a sleeve, which stretches to fit your iPod; however Apple have made it thick enough so you can't see bits of the iPod showing through. To show it's an Apple product, the sock has a small label on the side with an embroidered apple logo, which I think is a nice touch.
In a full pack of official iPod socks, you get one of each in green, orange, pink, blue, purple and grey. If you're buying from a seller that's not Apple, sometimes they will throw in one free for you when you buy an iPod, saving you the cost. The socks come in a plastic box.
I've had mine for 8 years now (!) and the quality is still great. It's a tiny bit bobbly, but still looks good. Just throw it in the washing machine when it needs a clean.
The only drawback of these socks is the price - as with all Apple products, they are expensive! The full set of six socks will set you back around £23 new (Amazon price). Many people, especially teenagers, often buy a pack with some friends and then split them, or sell off the ones they don't want to make the price a bit more bearable. If you're buying from an Amazon seller, double-check first if the price looks really low to make sure it's a pack of 6 and not one individual one.
Alternatively, there are non-Apple branded unofficial socks - which to be honest look almost identical to me - which can be purchased around the £4 mark for 6 (Amazon price), which is much more reasonable.
Overall, these iPod socks are a good quality product, and are a nice addition if not an essential. If you're buying an iPod for someone as a gift then these socks would go down very well to accompany it (just make sure they will fit the type of iPod you're buying beforehand). Or if you want to buy something for an iPod fanatic then these socks are a fun choice.
Recommended, but worth checking out the non-official ones if the price is a big factor for you.
Summary: A must for all serious iPod fans
