Apple iPod Socks
Advantages: Errm.....give me a minute. Oh yeah, look stylish and funky? Err...no, maybe not!
Disadvantages: Offers little protection, pointless and unnessecary?
I have kind of got the competition bug at the minute. My sister enters literally hundrds of on-line competitions a day and ends up winning a fair bit of stuff so I thought I would give it a go. And what do I win?
Well, seeing as I am writing a review of this product, take one guess.
I didn't even think to check to see if these were featured on Dooyoo until somebody else rated one of my reviews and I checked out their profile. But now, yippee, I can finally get to share exactly what I think of the marvellous bounty that came through my door the other month just for entering a few details on-line....
Well, first of all, what is the point? As someone else has said, it is not exactly as if your Ipod is going to get cold? To me the concept of these sits right up there with the idea of putting woolly hats on top of Innocent Smoothies. But I guess if you can think of a silly enough gimmick there will always be someone out there willing to trade their cow for it!
The prize I recieved consisted of a set of 6 of these (and why would you need 6?), all in different and varying colours and all marked with the Apple logo in the form of a tag that hangs off the end of the sock. The colours I got vary slightly from those pictured above in that they are not quite so garish and distasteful ~ the ones I got were darker in tone and hue. The only reason I can imagine for these coming in packs of 6 is that you have a different one for every day of the week but then there are 7 days in the week so wtf?!?!
I googled to try and see what the point of these were. The soft knitted cushioned exterior is supposed to protect your Ipod from dents and knocks but let's face it ~ drop it with only what is essentially a wooly sock for protection and it's not exactly going to prevent it from coming to harm. It's a bit like saying wear socks in case you drop something heavy on your feet! That's why we have steel toe-capped safety boots!
Aesthetically these are quite funky and appealing but I agree with the majority view in nthat I am sure they are more of a feminine thing. They have been described as fun but I do think that is taking things a bit too far! How much fun can you have after all putting your Ipod in a sock then taking it out again? For me, this rest right up there with watching paint dry or taking down the numbers of passing trains, always provided the train drivers aren't on strike! It's not quite the same taking down the number of replacement buses, one assumes.
I can understand buying a hard vcase because then that actually provides protection. But this ~ their appeal seems nonsensical to me! I have tried to give mine away to no avail ~ all my friends laughing at me as if to say "Um..yeah..whatever!". I cannot even seem to serll them on Ebay! Al I can say is thsat someone out there must buy them because otherwise they would not still be floating around in the ether, one assumes but I really fail to see any practical use for these or where the target market lies outside of gullible fools!
Thank god I didn't pay good money for these! I have heard of them costing anywhere up to and including £20!!!! Though they have served no purpose to me whatsoever, I am just thankful that I won them and wasn't silly enough to be sucked in to the Corporate Apple machine and didn't actually part with cold, hard cash for these!
Summary: Another useless accessory for those tooo stupid to know better! lol
