When it comes to looking after any electrical item I own I am and always have been rather obsessive, and when forking out quite a large sum for an iphone 3G recently one of the first items I sought to buy was a cover to protect it and after browsing through some reviews on here as well as elsewhere online it seemed the logical choice to buy the Hard Case Back Cover as displayed here.
This item has proved every bit worth the £2.99 I paid for it online and it has provided my phone with the protection it needs from being bounced around from pillar to post. I am constantly abusing my phones, knocking them off places, dropping them and leaving them in places where something inevitably drops on them so something sturdy, strong and reliable is needed to meet my needs.
The only option for me is a hard case, I feel the soft cases and leather pouches do very little and would not provide the protection I needed. This is a solid, sturdy piece of kit. From the moment you unpack it you will feel its hard, tough well made feel. Quality all round. It's a high quality, solid plastic.
It fits like a glove onto the back of the iphone and you will have no problems clipping it into place and once there it will remain there come hell or high water. There is no slippage and the phone will not come out of place from merely being in your pocket. Its solid. It does take rather some struggle to get it off once you have it on though so only really use this if you are going to leave it on for some time.
Aesthetically it looks stylish and in the white brand which I own, goes nicely with the phone holding the apple logo.
Overall though it is the sheer durability, toughness and general all round performance of this item that makes it well worth the price. I have used many a hard cases on many phones over the years but very few have given me the confidence this has that my precious phone is protected well.
For a while I had an iphone without a case. I thought it would stay perfect forever. Sadly I learnt that this wasn't the case. The back got really scratched and the screen actually got smashed. The screen could be replaced, and it was, but the back, black part could not be. I soon learnt to buy a case. I had a silicon one first, which was fantastic, but I wanted a colour change, so I decided to go for a harder one this time.
I picked up a couple of the hard skin cases for two pounds each on ebay with free postage. They were brand new, shipping was quick, prices were reasonable and I was not disappointed when they arrived. I picked a neutral black, a purple, and a lime green. The colours were bright and tasteful, and didn't fade over time either.
The covers look like a hard plastic moulding. It is a snug fit to the back of the iphone with curves round the side to make it grip on. It is a tight fit and takes a little bit of effort to take off and back on again if that's what you want to do! The bonus of the snug fit is that it is easy to put in and out of pockets and tighter spaces, which you can't really do with the silicon one as it ends up dragging the case off the phone and getting it jammed!
The phone is perfect for protection and looks really sleek. Smarter than the silicon case too. I love having lots of different colours so I can chop and change depending on my mood. The cover doesn't stay as new and as fresh as the silicon one, as the hard case picks up the scratches and ends up just as damaged as my phone did and would. The thing is you can just take the cover off and change it for a new one, with no damage to the actual phone. These ones definitely do not last as long as the silicon ones. If you drop the phone a chunk will be taken out of the case. It just makes you glad you had the case on there as you know without it that would be your phone!
If you are happy to pay for something which doesn't last too long, but isn't that expensive and looks good, then buy a couple of these. The wear and tear of your phone will be saved and your phone will be livened up and suited to your mood!
When I got my iPhone, I didn't bother buying a cover for it. I liked the way it looked without one but then I saw what happened to my friend's iPhone when she dropped it - completely scratched back - and decided a protective cover for the back wouldn't be such a bad idea.
After having a look about, I kept coming across them for £20+ so I went over to eBay and found that there were sellers selling them alot cheaper. One seller was selling them as a set of 6 different colours for £5.70 which was including postage. The colours I got were bright pink, orange, white, black, silver and blue. All of which looked quite metallic and were very nice. All of them had the iPhone Apple symbol and said "iPhone 3G" on the back. It looks exactly the same as the back of the actual iPhone.
It is easy to clip on as it is literally just a case of pushing it on and allowing it to clip into place but what I will say is that this needs to be done slowly and carefully. If your push it too hard, the plastic corners tend to crack. The plastic on the corners is quite flimsy when putting it on. I cracked one of mine by putting too much pressure on it and had to use a different one. The actual case aside from the corners feels quite sturdy.
There is a hole in the case which fits over the camera lens. It does fit perfectly and does not obscure the camera at all.
I haven't yet dropped my iPhone whilst having this cover on the back so I cannot say whether it works or not but seeing as the corners cracked by applying a small amount of pressure when putting it on, I won't be holding my breath for it to survive being dropped.
I was quite disappointed with this item and wouldn't recommend paying alot for them and eBay is your first port of call.
Having bought the iphone 3G, I only thought it was fair to protect it with a strong and sturdy case, especially as I am quite clumsly and on numerous occasions am dropping my phone.
I actually found this case on ebay and am unaware as to wear else you can purchase them from, but am pretty sure I have seen them in Currys.
It cosst me £1.50 and £1 postage but I am certain they will be much more expensive in the shops and probably retail at around the £9.99 mark, just the luck of the drawer I suppose.
They sell them in many different colours, just to name a few, black, white, green, orange pink. I chose a bright deep blue colour that has a sparklyness to it.
On the back it has the apple logo and underneath reads iphone, just like the back of the iphone does. It also reads either 16GB or 8GB depending on what phone you have or what one you have purchased.
The case itself it very easy to fix onto the phone as you simply click it into place. You can do this easily by 'snapping' it onto all four corners. The corners are sligtly rounded so it does mean that it is quite stiff to pop on, but also means that it is sturdy and strong once it is on there.
It has a hole at the top so that the camera can still be used and it doesn't affect the camera in any way. It also has holes for the volume and silent button at the side and a long hole at bottom and top so that you can turn on and off and still charge.
It is made of plastic so is actually very strong and has beem almost galzed with a plastic seal to stop it from scratching. I have dropped the phone outside and inside with this case on (not on purpose) and of yet it is showing no signs of wear. I have also removed to see whether it had protected the phone and it has. There are no scratches or cracks on the phone.
The only thing is, is that some dust and dirt does collect between the iphone and case so you do need to take it odd every now again to give it a wipe down.
All in all I would reccomend this as it is very at protecting the phone and will take all the damage if your drop it. It looks stylish as well and doesn't bulk it up like I thought it would!
