top quality analouge to digital convertor, all you need to make an album, one stereo track at a time!

We needed to make some purist esoteric recordings, so we used this Mindprint andi pro interface box to capture the sound of the capacitor mics into the AES EBU inputs of my hard disk recorder (stereo digital audio on one xlr). This was the best box to use. simple front panel controls (48v phantom, mic/ line level, lo cut switches) and trim volume control, and output digital rate selection 44.1, 48k, or 96k, we also used the spdif output for digital monitoring at the same time. The long row of LEDs gave good indication of the headroom, but with 116db of dynamic range, you can easiuly record live stuff with peaks at -20, leaving a huge amount of room to prevent the risk of clipping.
There was also a word clock bnc input for locking up to avid video editing studio equipment, but as we were using as a standalone digital recording without using a mixer, then we never checked out this flexible syncing feature. There are insert on the points on the back, so once the mics have been brought up to line level, you can send to a graphic eq, compressor, or noisegate etc, before conversion into digital. send jack works as a line out for monitoring too, which is handy.
If anyones got some important analogue recordings to make (like copying all your old vynyl records into dat/ minidisk. CDr), but dont want to listen to the audible compression of the MP3 format, than this is probably the best sounding processor you can get for less than a grand.
      Hope that helps, Rog
