excellent little dock that I would highly recommend

I've never been one for ipod docks but, when I bought my iphone the inbuilt speaker wasn't as good as I'd hoped and so I went out and bought the cheapest dock I could find with the idea that I would use it every now and then around the house. So, after a quick search online I found the proline tube speakers for £15. Not a bad price and so before long I found myself in the store buying some.

The speakers themselves are very easy to use. They claim to fit every ipod/iphone and whilst I have only been able to test them with the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch the fit on these was very good and they both stayed connected even whilst in a moving car. It also comes with a lead to connect other devices such as an mp3. Again, after testing an mp3 through these speakers this works equally well.

When I first played these speakers I was very impressed. I had, after all, only been after the cheapest dock I could find and so I wasn't expecting that much for the price I had paid. However, the quality is much better then that from my computer and almost equal to that of my stereo. There are buttons on the front to adjust the volume and it is more then loud enough to fill a large room with music. So far, I haven't tested it to maximum as I've had no need to since its a lot louder then you expect for the size!

The speakers also double up as a charger when they are connected to the mains.

The speakers are very compact which helps with their portability, I have to admit I was also attracted by their cylindrical shape as this is unusual.

As for the negative aspects, the speakers take 4AAA batteries. I have found that the battery life isn't brilliant when in use although I use rechargable batteries so this may be due to the fact that the batteries are reaching the end of their life? I've also found that when volume is increased to where the speakers are loud there is distortion when using batteries although this disappeares as soon as it is plugged back into the mains.

Also, the speakers themselves are on the end of the tube and have very little protection, therefore they can be easily damaged.

Overall, I love these speakers and would highly recommend them. I expected a lot less for the price I paid

A great little device which is good all round.

These speakers a great addition to house I find.
They are small and very simple, nothing new to learn or anything complicated about them. I qould reccomend them to anyone with an iPod to use it as an iPod dock, which is one of its features. This device just seems to fit in wherever you place it oddly with its rather strange tube design. This design makes it stick out from all other iPod docks, due to it not appearing to clutter the room with more electronic objects, it is simply not bulky in anyway. This first first appears to be a somewhat "cheaper" design than others, but once you try it out and begin using it you realise that it has extremely good sound quality which was unexpected.

Its portability is also enhanced due to its simplistic and tubular design, it can quite litterally taken anywhere without hassle. This coupled with the iPod enables you to carry your whole music collection around and also have excellent sound quality at your disposal at the same time.

It has both a mains power supply and battery. Also an audio in-line from other devices is on it.

      Recommended portable speakers

This is the first review I have written in this category, so I have based it on information I think would be useful to know when purchasing speakers. If I have left anything out, please let me know.

      **********************************************************
      Ease of use:
The speakers are very easy to use; they come with a lead to plug them into a socket, and that's all you have to do to get them set up. Most ipods will fit into the socket on top of the speakers; I have an ipod nano, so I use an attachment that came with the speakers to make the space smaller and therefore make it fit better. There is also a lead to attach other kind of mp3 players or other musical devices, such as CD players; it is just a generic output lead that will fit into any device.

It also doubles as an ipod-charger, which is good for me as my ipod didn't come with one!

      **********************************************************
      Sound quality:
The sound quality is very good. There are buttons on the front of the speakers to adjust the volume. The sound can go quite loud; I would say it would be loud enough for a medium sized party.

      **********************************************************
      Portability:
These speakers are a very handy size for carrying around. They are long and thin in shape, and would fit into a medium-sized handbag or anything bigger. The fact that they are easy to set up also means you could move it from one room in the house to another without too much hassle. There is a battery compartment at the base, which takes 4 AAA batteries. I haven't used the speakers with batteries yet, but I will try that out when I get a chance and add that to this review.

      **********************************************************
      Appearance:
They are black, so might not go with everybody's décor, but they are small enough to just sit in the background. They are cylindrical in shape, which I think is quite nice, and makes them look a bit different to your usual speakers.
