Sony Handycam DCR-DVD105E ... this camcorder very easy to use the controls are very user friendly. Single record stop button and zoom in and out toggle switch. You have the option to use the viewer or the pull out the LCD screen whilst recording. The LCD screen can be flip around 180 degrees to allow playback and editing of the stored clips. Video quality is not bad for the 800k pixel sensor, it does struggle in poor light though. The photo snap feature is poor resolution. All video is stored on mini dvd disk, they are 1.5Gb and hold about 30mins of footage, you can get double sided ones which helps a bit. Remember that digital zoom will reduce the quality of your shot so if you know you will film distant objects high optical zoom is the way to go. It is compact, light and portable. Hitachi DZ-BX35E ... am not particularly good with techie things, but I found my camcorder pretty easy to use straight away. Have been using this for a couple of years now and have yet to try and load any of my dvds onto the computer (they are small ones!) but its on my list of things to do. Its easy to play the disks back on the TV though and all the cables required are already in the box. The battery life is good although as this is the first camcorder I have owned I have nothing to compare this with. It is really easy to use with no fussy setting up required, just one button record and off you go. The screen is really clear and you can turn it all the way round so that you can do so...
