Sony Handycam DCR-TRV14 ... purchased this Sony model around 5 years ago for about £200 i think? My main reason for purchase was for Paranormal Research, and as such wanted a model that had decent reviews for its nightvision capability, and this fit the bill on that count! Prior to this i had not owned a camcorder and knew nothing about using them really, but found this surprisingly easy to pick up and learn with. The instruction manual was huge as they always are to cover every single function they can do, however to just do the basic recording and playback it doesnt take a rocket scientist to suss that out! Panasonic e.cam NV-MX350 ... bought it in 2002. The main advantage of this poduct is the excellent quality of images in terms of colors, brightness, sharpness, etc.... It is quite complex and the instruction manual difficult to use. The main disadvantage is that it is very unreliable and the technical assistance and repair which has not been helpful or for for a very high price. It has already undergone two major repairs one for a problem with reading heads, the other for the motor actuating the cassette which needed to be changed (for 400 euros i-e > 500 dollars). Samsung VP D381 ... have all heard those hackneyed phrases You Get What You Pay For and Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware), I think. Sometimes, despite a rather jaunidiced advertising slant on this most cynical of phrases, we find an exception to the general rule. This actual contraption is well worth a look, especially if you buy it knowing that it is almost certainly the cheapest gadget on the market at this point in time, with all the concomitant meaning attached to that phrase. Many of these devices feature a separate menu type button, and this is no exception, although a bit unwieldy to figure out at first. Aren t they all??
