      Affordable lightweight little camcorder

      I bought this camcorder because I wanted something that was reasonably cheap that I could take on holiday and not worry too much if it got broken or got dropped in the sand at the beach etc.

      It's small and light and can literally fit in your pocket. At first my Dad didn't even believe it was a proper camcorder when I showed him!

      It's really easy to use, you just flip it open and press record and you're away! The only thing to be careful about is not fiddling around with the buttons and zoom too roughly when you are recording as the audio on your video will pick up on this...

      The audio play back on the camcorder is a bit tinny as you would expect but everything you record is destined for final viewing on a computer anyway so I really don't think this is a major issue.

      I like the colour as I have a red camera and it matches perfectly. It makes it look a bit more interesting than the standard black or silver that these things usually are.

      It won't be used to shoot the next Speilberg movie but it's a good priced little camcorder for those times when you're out somewhere / on holiday and just want to capture a memory.

      Great camera for the really cheap price, would reccomend to all my friends

      My family inititally bought this for my little sister, who loved taking my digital camera before we got this and recording things and taking pictures. So when we were stuck as to what to get her for her birthday, we purchased this Alba Pocket Camcorder. We didn't really know much about it before we bought it, only that it was one of the cheapest available and seemed to look like it would do a decent job of filming random moments. (Although we may have said this was a present to my sister, it was also a little present for the rest of the family really!) We bought it for around £30 with about £10 taken off due to it being a Christmas special.

      The setup of this video camera was really easy, as all I had to do was charge it for about 2 hours, and then turn it on by flipping the screen out. Once it was turned on, it required no details to be entered on which was a great bonus on the morning of my sisters birthday, as it meant no fiddling about with all the random preferences that usually show up at this point. Even using it was really simple, as all you did was flip it open and press record.

      What was great about this camera is that it is so small and fits right into the palm of your hands. It is really easy to just slide into your bag to without taking up loads of space like other video cameras might.The screen flips out the side of it, and you can see what your filming through this tiny screen. On the design of the video camera, there are 6 buttons, the record button, the camera button, the rewind button, the fastforward button, the volume button and the playback button. These are all quite tiny and don't make the video camera seem bulky at all, like they have done in other models I have owned.

      The buttons are pretty easy to handle and always responsive, even though they are so tiny. What I really loved though was the ability to plug the video camera into the TV, as then we could watch all the movies that had been recorded easily, without the hassle of having to download it to a computer and then burn it onto a disk like we previously had. There is also the USB cable to plug into your computer to allow for saving your videos and a charger input, which is pretty obvious what thats for.

      When the screen is turned on the display is really clear and bright and everything is displayed perfectly. It is a HD 720p Camcorder, and you can really see the difference between our previous camcorder and this new version due to the fact it has made our videos much more clearer and more improved. The display itself is really handy in the fact that it tells you how much time you have left to record to, as usually I would find myself using previous models just having the entire card black out and say Memory Too Low. Along with a battery level indicator and if you have a memory card inserter, this makes managing your camera much easier.

      The battery is of good length for a camcorder as my sister recorded about 4 hours straight on it as soon as she got it. It doesn't even take that long to charge, as we found it only took around 2 hours to fully charge back to normal. There arent't that many features, but you do have the option of making it into your webcam. Also, whenever you are recording or taking a picture, the camera will automatically stabilise it for you, to stop on those annoying shaky photograhs!

      It's great for recording as it provides a really clear picture, and this feature is great also for those that want to take pictures to, as the camcorder combines itself to make for a relatively low quality but decent camera. The sound quality is great from this camcorder, as throughout all the videos taken of my family we can hear each other really clearly.

      Overall this is a great camcorder for just carrying around on the go to catch those moments in your family you won't want to miss. It has really clear graphics and the fact its just so compact makes it a well rounded product everyone should have, due its low price.

      Fun camera for fun times

      This compact digital camcorder is made by ALBA a name everyone seams to know now thanks to Argos. Which is exactly where I got this from for the very affordable price of only £39.99.

      I didn't expect much from this for that price, but there are some good simple features on it.
      There is a 2 inch LCD screen on the back that you use to see what you're recording. The picture on this screen is good but not great. It has auto focus that I find I need a lot of the time as the camera does tend to shake if your not standing still. It takes 2 x AA batteries these last longer if you just record or take photos. If you play back what you have recorded the batteries waste much quicker. The internal memory is pretty nonexistent so you do need to use a memory card ( not supplied ). Of course the larger the memory card the more photos and longer video you will get.

      This is basically the size of a mobile phone. So that means you can carry it anywhere with you.
      It's overall size is just H11, W6, and D2.5.

      It doesn't have an optical zoom. Which is a pity as that is the kind of zoom that you don't lose picture quality with
      .
      It does however have an 8 x digital zoom. This means it zooms in on the picture electronically and unfortunately this does result in a pixelated image the more you zoom.

      It can take still photos at 3 mega pixels, that's okay but not as good as a digital camera witch is normally around 10 or more mega pixels.

      You do lose out on the quality when using This unit compared to a digital camcorder or camera. But the size is what makes this appealing. I wouldn't recommend this for recording treasured memories. But for fun, this is great.

      This is available from Amazon.co.uk for only £29.99 + shipping.

      Ideal camcorder for a child/beginner

      I was looking for a camera to keep in my baby changing bag to catch magical moments and thought at the bargain price of under £40.00 this camera not only looks great but came fully loaded with functions.

      So what do you get for the price? A small pocket size camera that has a 8x digital zoom, the option of taking stills (saved as jpegs) and features such as fade and auto focus. So pretty much everything you would expect in a camcorder suitable for a beginner. It runs on AA batteries, and how much you can record at any one time depends on the size of the memory card. Internal memory isn't that big (we got a few seconds of filming onto it) so the larger the memory card the more you can fit onto it. This camcorder takes SDHC or SD cards, which can be purchased online at quite a reasonable price.

      So what do I think of the camera. It's a great camera for beginners-if the beginner is a child. It's straight forward point and shoot technology makes it easy to use for children and say those who have never used a camcorder before in their lives. The quality of the filming and photos is average, however for the price you cannot expect to get mega quality photos to convert poster prints. I think if you put the functions and price into prospective this camera does exactly what is says on the tin. The sound quality leaves a to be desired, but then for the price perfect crisp sound isn't really an option. Batteries will need frequent changing so it's best to buy the best you can rather than the cheaper ones that run out quicker.

      Easy to use, ideal as a back up camera, but not as a main camera to catch things like Birthday parties.

      Buy it for your little one, but don't take it too seriously as it would be better branded as a children's first camcorder.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        This camera does what it says, but not very well at all.

        {~~~Introduction~~~}

        I was looking for a basic camcorder to use to video small events and occasions such as family outings and birthdays. I opted for this camera due to its price and features. Also, the fact that it is red appealed to me, as its appearance is different compared to most cameras.

        {~~~Packaging~~~}

        This camera comes in a small box neatly packed away. It comes with two cables: one for connecting it to the computer, and an AV cable to view photos and videos on the television. Two AA batteries are included in the box.

        {~~~First Thoughts~~~}

        When I took it out of the box, I thought it was a good size. It feels sturdy and fits comfortable in my hand. Weighing in at 84g, it is very light. However, the weight of the batteries increases this weight, making it a better weight to carry around, so it doesn't feel like a plastic toy. The bright red colour suits the camera, it is quite vivid and attractive. I would have preferred it if the brighter shade of red was used on the whole of the back, rather than having a small patch on the bottom as dark red.

        {~~~Design~~~}

        The front of the camera features a small 2 inch screen at the top, under which are buttons, including a central console of buttons. These buttons are for playing and recording video and pictures. The buttons are a good size, however they feel quite cheap and 'clumsy' when pushed down on, as if they are fake. There is an SDHC card slot on the right hand size. This slot is open and doesn't have a lid so it is always exposed.

        {~~~Using the camera: Recording~~~}

        It is a simple camera to use. The record button is on the side of the camera, and the screen clearly allows you to see what you are recoding. However, in bright sunlight, it can become impossible to see the screen. A 1GB memory card allows approximately half an hour of video to be captured. Still images can also be captured at a resolution of 3MP. This camera only features mono sound, so the playback quality of the video sound is quite dire, whilst the video quality tends to be reasonable in bright light conditions.

        It can be quite difficult to hold the camera still whilst recording due to its size. This doesn't affect video quality as much as it does the image quality. This camera does not feature any image-stabilisation, which is to be expected for a camera of this price.

        The camera does feature 8X digital zoom. However, this has an adverse effect on the image quality, and I would not recommend using it unless you really need to.

        Using 2xAA alkaline batteries, I have managed to record for a couple of hours. This is slightly poor for this camera as the screen is not very large. So I'd recommend rechargeable batteries to go with this.

        {~~~Final thoughts~~~}

        Overall, I would not recommend this camera. I may have recommended it a few years ago. However, now a days, mobile phones do a better job than this. However, it would make a good present for children. It fits nicely in pockets due to its size as well. It does what it has supposed to, just not very well.

        Recommended for Kids

        This Alba Pocket Camcorder is available from Argos for £39.99 in either red (which is the one we own) or black. It's stocked by some other retailers, but Argos had the best price when we bought it at £10 off.

        This is intended to be an adult's camera, but actually it's ideal as a children's toy more than anything else. At this price, you get what you pay for, and you pay for something you won't cry over if it breaks. We bought it for our grandson because he's a bit obsessed with recording everything, and we didn't want him to keep pinching our Kodak digital camera.

        Getting this set up was extremely easy and took only two minutes. I didn't need to read the instruction manual, just glance at the first page to know what the buttons were. Other bits in the box include a PC CD Rom in case you need any drivers etc and a little grey slip case which can be used to protect the videocamera while not in use.

        The video footage you get on this is akin to the kind we get on our Kodak digital camera. It's a little bit grainy, the resolution isn't very good, and the sound quality is a tiny bit distorted in places. But at this price, none of us were surprised and none of us minded. It does clearly say on the box that the digital stills (photos to you and me) that this device can take are only 3mp, so you know the video isn't going to much better, if even as good!

        There are loads of plus sides to buying this, and the first is obviously the price tag. Then there is the fact that this is so easy to use, a five year old can do it. There are only three buttons on the back of this camcorder, one switches through the three main options (video, photo and review), one is the menu button, and one is the power button. That's it. There's a button with a picture of a speaker on it to balance out the design, but it's just a decoration - not a functioning button.

        Then on one the side of this there is a flip-out USB stick which folds neatly away, and on the other side there is an SD card slot. You absolutely need an SD card in this because the internal memory is designed for nothing more than testing this out with. You can take about thirty seconds worth of video on it - that's your lot. With a cheap SD card we can get a good twenty minutes footage.

        One of the other big pluses is that the screen is quite good quality. It's a 2" TFT screen and it displays the video footage or photos in the same resolution as you get when uploaded to a PC, and the sound quality during playback is pretty acceptable too. I like that the screen is set slightly back into the device, so if you dropped this on the floor, it's the edge of the frame that would get hit - not the actual screen.

        As far as videocameras go, this is cheap, this is low quality and this is little more than a toy. As far as toys goes this rocks though! It's affordable, really easy to use, records well enough to please a child and can easily be played back on the device or on a PC.
