Canon DM-MV550i ... LCD screen and viewfinder, image stabilizer and Night Mode take care of every possible shooting situation. Features also include illuminated keys and an extended recording facility, which allows an ordinary 80-minute tape to be extended to 4 hrs. Compatible with both SD memory cards and MultiMedia Cards, still images can be downloaded for storage and manipulation on a PC. Audio Dubbing allows new audio material to be added to, or replace, the original recorded sound, whilst DV-out/in terminals allow analog signals to be converted to digital with no deterioration in quality. The MV550i is the last word in digital video technology with style. It takes every conceivable shooting and editing task in its stride!

I bought the Canon MV550i two years ago after reading magazine reviews. It seemed to be the leader in the field of budget camcorders and having tried it in the shops found it very comfortable to use. Initial impressions were very good, and I used the camera to shot some great footage skiing. The only minor downside was the noise of the cameras operation being picked up - this was mentioned in reviews. However, then it all went wrong. One day whilst backing up some editing footage via DV-IN from my PC, the camcorder chewed up a tape. Suspecting it to be a tape problem, I tried another (new) tape. This little beauty is worth £800 (well to be precise...£799.99). It's worth every penny... it was my christmas present this year from my mum and it records beautiful imagery, the sound quality is ace but i would recommend you invest in a microphone anyway. You can do digital special effects on it and you can do fade-ins and fade-outs... editing is easy if you buy yourself a firewall card and a program for your PC... I've heard that "final cut" is THE best program on the market at this moment in time.
