Kodak ZM1 Pocket Video Camera
Advantages: great design, takes good videos
Disadvantages: internal memory
At Christmas time, I had quite a view Amazon vouchers and thought it was about time I treated myself to something new. I already have a digital camera for the time being but something I have always wanted is a video camera and after much researching around the Amazon website and reading customer ratings, I settled for this little number. I think what caught my eye was the design of it and being small as well as coming in a range of colours, really how could a girl say no to something stylish and interesting.
To look at this video camera it comes in a Kodak box all very securely packaged and comes with instructions etc. Now, I think the thing I love most about this is that it is very lightweight, I got it in the red metallic colour which is lovely and it has buttons on the front as well as being the size of a credit card. The camera really is small and of course there is the actual screen on the front so that you can look at what you are taking videos of, it really is a compact and clever design to it. It comes in red, blue and grey.
The thing that first attracted me to it apart from the rich red colour was that you could take it underwater which for the price seemed perfect. It is nice to make holiday videos and this makes it possible, it goes up to 3m (10 feet) underwater which isn't too bad but I am still to try out this feature properly. The camera is only 73g in weight which really is perfect as you don't want to be carrying anything heavy about and it comes with a wrist strap to keep hold of it very securely.
Now, another good thing is that you don't have a charger with this so no annoying cables, it simply has a USB stick built in and sticks right into the computer and charges from there. Now, the only downside to this is that if you take it away and have no computer access then you better hope the battery lasts a while. This is the next thing, once fully charged the battery seems to last a good while it is a Li-Polymer battery and is rechargeable giving up to 85 minutes of recording time.
The other downside when buying this camera was that I noticed it only comes with 128MB of internal memory which is not a lot at all for this kind of thing but it does have a micro SD slot if you want to buy up to 16GB of memory. I bought a 4GB one really cheap and it seems to hold a good amount of videos on it so when buying this it is highly recommended you buy another SD or you will find yourself having no space for videos at all.
Setting up the camera is very easy and you can get shooting videos pretty much right away once the battery is charged. At first just play about with the buttons to get familiar with how to re-play and how to delete and so on. It has a high colour LCD screen to view the videos on and it seems to take good videos in all kinds of lighting which was impressive so again really liked this and the fact it has a built in mic so it is picking up everything, all in this small design.
When playing back videos it is nice to watch them and really easy to hear and see. The picture is great for a small thing like this and I have captured so many nice memories already with this and I love the camera. It holds a LOT of videos with the new SD I have and it is very easy to work as well as hold and shoot as it is that light to do so. On the further menu you can access sound, brightness, you can format the card and set the date and time also.
When uploading to the computer you can watch again and again but just watch if filming sideways as you cannot rotate videos. The videos all upload in files and you can share them online on social networking or burn them to CD and share with the family, it really is a nice idea and so far so good. The battery lasts long enough to get a good amount of videos filmed. It films in MJPEG mode and has a 3x digital zoom on it as well.
The camera is great for all ages and even for those who are not too good with fancy technology. It works very easily and so far I have had no major issues with it which is great as Kodak are a leading camera brand. I love the colour and it really is unique and the fact it is small is really nice as well to be able to carry it around.
If you want to buy this camera then Amazon is a great place to buy from. I paid about £50 for this but in a few months it now seems to be only £29.99 which is annoying but it is a bargain for what it costs and if not for you it would make a great gift for anyone whether they are going travelling, filming the family or just making happy memories. It qualifies for free delivery and really is worth buying.
There is more information on the Kodak website at http://shop.kodak.co.uk/ as well as the fact your can buy it here but will have to pay the full RRP of £49.99 which is not as good as Amazon's deal.
