We purchased the Samsung VP-D371 last Christmas to record our sons first moments. This one particularly stood out as we have had a good relationship with Samsung and their products and felt that we would get a lot of use out of this camcorder. The camcorder is black and silver and looks sleek it is also light enough to handle for lengthy periods with it weighing 340g.
Once we opened the box we found cables to transfer recordings to the computer, a disc the camcorder, and spare battery and information booklets.
As someone who can't work new gadgets very well I was surprised to find that this camcorder was very simple to use, you put in the mini DV'S (little discs) We purchase the basic ones from Poundland which worked just as well as the more expensive ones we purchased initially from Comet.
The 2.7 inch widescreen shows you what you're recording and the picture is super clear. The microphone picks up even the quietest whisper so if you're using this and you don't want to be heard in the background then don't say anything.
It has a stabiliser function built in to stop the recording looking shaky also. To use you flip out the window on the side which is where you view the event and press the record button. It has a focal length of 2.3 mm to 78.2 mm so can record events from a distance easily such as our sons end of term assembly. Once you're finished recording you can take the disc out and put it straight into your DVD player or computer.
Our sons where amazed to see themselves on our TV so quickly and I was happy as I didn't have to mess about doing things to make it work. The only downside is that the battery doesn't last nearly as long as I hoped it would and it doesn't come with plug cable to connect it to the mains to charge it up. We had to purchase the battery charger separately which was frustrating.
