Sanyo HD1010 great camcorder - great price (Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1010)
Member Name: Silkpeg
Advantages: Image quality, price, size, ease of use. Disadvantages: File format, narrow standard lens, superfluous instruction book. Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1010 Dark Grey (looks classier than the black). Who would believe that for a little over £300 you could buy a broadcast quality camcorder that fits in your pocket. For me this camera ticks all the right boxes - image quality is outstanding, easy to use, has enough features to satisfy most amateur film makers and it won't break the bank. I love being able to take high definition still shots while videoing in Full HD without either being compromised. The HD1010 isn't perfect by any means but what you get for the price in my opinion makes it a camera that you should seriously consider. A couple of things to be aware of 1) it is not supplied with a memory card - don't buy an SD card always use SDHC 6 cards. 2) I find the standard lens a bit on the narrow side so a wide angle lens is a must. 3) Don't print off the instruction book which comes on a supplied disc - it is huge so just print off bits you want to read. 4) Sanyo uses a different file format to most other HD camcorder manufacturers (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) and it is not supported by the majority of editing software that is on the market. BE WARNED no matter which HD camcorder you buy editing your HD video is not as straight forward as editing standard format footage. In full HD at 60fps files are huge and you will need a beast of a computer to handle the data. Summary: Well worth considering
