Advantages: Compact, good quality pictures

Disadvantages: the pistol grip

This is the second 1 mega pixel camcorder from sony. The PC110E is a very small, light and compact camcorder and has a solid feel about it. It is held by the palm strap attaching to a small plastic pistol grip. This arrangement takes some getting used to and, to ensure steady shooting, its often necessary to use your left hand for added support.

There is also a, Carl Zeiss lens which is much easier to use than the menu selector on other cameras. Other features are the zoom rocker, a still picture button, contorls for infra-red night shooting and a dual function button. It is a very easy camera to use as on the right- hand side these buttons are within reach of your index finger.

The lens has a 10-speed optical and 40- speed zoom. In addition there is a microphone and headphone socket and a button that enables the super laser link infra-red AV transfer for wireless playback with an optical receiver. Also at the back there is a viewfinder, and below this is the four-position thumb operated power mode selector.

The LCD panel also folds out to reveal VCR playback and memory stick controls. Handy isn't it? Despite all these features, it is still a very easy camera to use. In auto mode the white balance is normally excellent and if you want you can just switch back to manual exposure. Here you'll find it just as easy and simple as the focus distance is displayed on the screen to make life easier in low light.

Still pictures have a maximum resolution of 1,152 x 864. However, on the memory stick, where the images are stored, only five can be stored at anyone time as it is only 4 MB. with your recordings and images you can send them quickly round the net as a recording, lasting 40 seconds is put in the format of MPEG-1. So when you load it up onto your PC theres no need to make the conversion.

But at £1,700 inc VAT, it is a very expensive model. But it is truly worth it. if you want, lets says, digital still camera images
, an easy-to-use camcorder, loadsa features, then this is the camera that you're looking for. So if you have the money, then I got 2 words for you: "BUY IT!"

A good opinion with enough facts and camera jargon to keep my head in the dictionary for weeks - you know your stuff, Steve.
