Advantages: night vision and backward compatability of video 8 media
yep sony have done it again with the dcr-trv320e,a general description of this camcorder is its a standard video-s shape unit with a 2.5 inch colour lcd screen and a black and white viewfinder with a 100 % digital zoom.
The lux value of this camcorder is a super night shot 0 lux that means it can see in the dark good for wildlife night shots, this is also adjustable in video mode to super nightshot mode so more can bee seen in total darkness.
The lens is a 25 % optical zoom f=3.7-92.5mm 1:1.6 with a precision ccd super L circuitry (thats what it says in the lens).
Digital camera combination is on this model and a 4 mb sony memory card comes along side the camcorder giving 40 pictures in night or day modes or 54 pictures in a lower definition.
The battery is a NP-F30 infolithium type which gives you about 60 mins record time depending if you have the lcd display switched on,it also sends info backto the camcorder informing the display how long to the nearest min how much power you have and how long you have left and the same goes for charging the unit.
Charger consists of 8.4 volt ac-l10a power adaptor which is very light weight so is east to carry along for the ride.
Outputs on camcorder are dv out digital video out (sony call this i-link),video-s ,3.5 mm jack output for sound (headphones)
3.5mm jack input for mic and 3.5 specialised audio/video output which leads for composite video and stereo audio output are supplied.
last is the lanc/digital i/o for automatic editing .
Infa red control is another feature this camcorder has with remote control supplied so home playback is just like using your normat video cassette recorder.
Modes this is a good point here as this camcorder is a middle of the road device as it accepts standard video8 cassettes aswell as digital 8 so backward compatability is there for you to play your old copies if you have had a older video camera (which i had)
but you get less time on your cassette if y
ou use it in digital mode 60 mins on a 90 min tape but playback is brillient.
Video modes on playback can be fun too as this model can go through a number of display modes like sepia,b&w,solarize, slim, stretch, pastel, mosaicand neg art briefly these are diferent types of display the camera can show as video effects aswell as overlay mode in which you can have a blue background on which you can take a picture of the beach and then overlay a picture of yourself whilst being at home and place your picture as if you have been on holiday.
This camcorder comes with a nice manual (quite thick)and a serial lead for your computer system so that you can send your pictures with the software supplied to your computer for printing or storage on harddisk.
overall i would say its a good buy if you are looking for a new camcorder and have a supply of old cassettes or just want a nice new camcorder just for the fun of it .
Sony offer a good range of accessories and memory cards (the chewing gum shaped type) aswell as floppy disk readers for these cards where you place the memory stici into the floppydisk shaped reader and then it acts as a standard floppy disk with mpeg pictures on it
Colour is a retro silver and black.
hope this helps as it seems there has been no info on this site on this model, try sony for any info otherwise.....barry young
