Advantages: design, Image quality, Image Stabilizer

Disadvantages: no manual zoom, no lcd

Why? Quite obvious: the VX-1000 has all the features of a professional camcorder and more. I've worked with several other camcorders and this one has it all. If I'd buy a new one today, I would probably choose the VX-2000, the newer version which has a manual zoom (not on the VX-1000), an lcd monitor (I miss this feature on the VX-1000, but I can live with it...)and as far as I know a more powerful zoom (but after all, if you're serious about video-making, why would you need a 100X zoom ??)
the VX-1000's image is perfect, the microphone of great quality (at least for what I'm doing) and the connectors/buttons are where you need them.

One of the other non-features I absolutely dislike about my version of the VX-1000 is the fact that the firewire connector is only OUT , IN was disabled. Makes it quite useless if you ask me. But, ok , for serious video editing, you'll use a separate DV deck after all.

Summary:

PRO:

- design
- Price/quality (features)
- perfect image/sound
- Optical image stabilizer

CON:

- no manual zoom
- firewire OUT , not IN (this wouldn't be an issue on the newer version)
- no Lcd monitor

The latest model of this camcorder is one hell of a piece of Kit, and at it's price one would think so too.

Yet again us Brits get slaughtered by the regulation / import requirements for 'DV in' to be disabled. This is a pain. Thankfully most cameras can be enabled for 'DV in' by the use of a 'widget'.

The 3CCD is the main sell of this PRO camcorder. You should update your opinion to include more information.

For a piece of equipment costing this much (serious money to most of us!) it would be more useful to hear more details about the features of the camcorder, from the basics upwards. Not everyone understands the ins and outs of them and you'll get much better ratings if you explain more. In then end, no-one can use as short an opinion as this one to help in a purchase decision of a £2,000+ piece of kit.

If you add any more in then email me and i'll come back and re-read and possibly re-rate.

Cheers, Lee.
