Advantages: So many features
Disadvantages: Expensive and takes time to get used to
Sony never seem to fail in the innovations area. I have only used this piece of technology twice and each time I have been more impressed by it's features. You have analogue camcorders and you have digital camcorders. So howabout a camcorder with both features. Sounds intruiging, doesn't it? Fast forward to Sony Digital8 Handycam camcorders a revolutionary new technology that delivers all the advantages of digital recording with all the convenience and familiarity of today's analog cassettes. There's nothing quite like it. Technology seems to be getting better and better, and smaller and more powerful. Every digital camcorder looks nice but, like us humans, it's the inside that counts...not the outside. Below are some of the highlights of Digital8 Handycam that I thought would be useful to those seeking the pleasures of buying one just for the sake of it. - Digital8 Handycam captures digital information on a standard 8mm or Hi8 tape1. -With Sony Digital8 camcorders, you'll see brilliant, sharp images with up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution. -You'll hear rich, digital quality sound. -You'll enjoy virtually unlimited editing possibilities(make sure you know what you're doing because as I found I could not undo my mistakes). -you can record it all on the most popular cassette format within the camcorder industry; 8mm tapes. -Digital8 delivers up to twice the sharpness and up to three times the color information of VHS2. -It has a compression technique that enables you to record up to one hour of video on an affordable 8mm cassette! -It plays back any standard 8mm and Hi8 cassettes. In the States 8mm is the most popular format. It's a very good invention but I admit it is abit tricky because there are so many features. Getting to grips with it was not easy so I recommmend always read the manual firs
t. The Digital8 is not for amateurs so if you are a first time buyer I would suggest you learn more about camcorders before purchasing this.

- 21/07/02 Great comments on Digital 8. It is definately an underated format. A 'must have' for serious users who have kept (and not copied) their original 8mm master tapes, since they can be transferred to Digital format properly and edited how they should be. |
