Advantages: good features for a low price
Disadvantages: Not high definition, some controls only available from touch-sensitive screen.
This video camera is a hybrid which means that it has a hard drive as well as the ability to save on to mini DVDs.
The internal memory is 8gb,which equates to around 5 hours of recording, depending on the quality setting. The built-in DVD +R DL drive is very useful and can be either directly recorded to or used to copy recording from the hard drive to.
The camera has built-in 5.1 digital surround sound which is an excellent feature for a not-too-highly priced camera.
The preview screen is touch-sensitive and most of the features are accessed from there. This touch-sensitive screen, which sounds like a good feature is also quite annoying as to access some features (such as the volume), you have to put your hand over the picture that you are watching or recording. When the next model comes out, some of these features need to be accessed in button form on the main camera.
There is a USB connection as well as space for a Memory Stick Pro Duo. I like the built-in lens cover, which is accessed from a sliding button on the front of the camera.
Another annoying feature is that when the screen is open, you cannot see a picture through the view-finder, even when the screen is facing the person you are filming.
The recording quality is very good, but you are very aware whilst watching that is doesn't offer high definition, which is another major drawback.
The battery life seems to be good as I get at least a couple of hours recording and playback without a recharge. An optional battery which is longer-lasting is also available.
Summary: A good camera, worth getting if you don't require HD.
