It was, it is enough to say, difficult for me to come to terms with the Sony Handycam DCR SR290E. My previous video-camera – a bastion of unparalleled style and functionality – reviewed just a few months ago, came to an untimely demise at the callous hands of my fiancée, who had thought it wise to toss it to one side during a routine cleaning exercise. With my first love reduced to a shadow of its former self, I was forced to invest in a suitable replacement. The Sony Handycam DCR SR290E seemed like the perfect choice. It is, without a doubt, a highly functional, if, at around £600, highly pricey, piece of equipment. Its proudest boast is its vast array of features, ...

the higher price range bracket, but is it really worth paying over £1000 for a camcorder when you can get one for a fifth of the price? The DCR -TRV80 is a relatively new offering from Sony, which replaces the DCR-TRV50, it is a MiniDV camcorder. The camera boasts a 2.1 megapixel sensor, a multitude of the latest features and accessories as well as responsive automatic controls; on paper this camcorder would seem tailor-made for any point-and-shoot videographer (or at least those with a big budget!) ~~~DESIGN~~~ This camcorder has a relatively compact body with a hand-grip design which means it is configured for handheld shooting and essentially this is how the ...

uncomfortably large either. Of course, it wouldn t be a Sony if it didn t have at least one new feature to add to the already impressive roster, and the DCR -TRV60 doesn t disappoint on that score. The key additions here are a 2.1-megapixel CCD, support for the new Memory Stick Pro format and the first true widescreen-recording mode on a home-consumer camcorder. A new camera sensor and support for a new memory format might appear to be more useful in a digital camera, but they also improve things on the video front. As well as 1,600 x 1,200 stills, the high-resolution CCD provides an impressive 540 lines of video resolution. The inclusion of Memory Stick Pro and its ...
