The Sony DCR-SR75E is my second camcorder. Myself, and my husband decided, some years ago, to treat ourselves to a Sharp camcorder to capture those magical family moments. We took it with us on holidays and found it good for recording outdoor footage, such as the children participating in various water sports. We were pleased with it for that purpose but, as our youngest daughter became more involved in singing and acting we found that this mini cassette type camcorder didn't cope well with indoor recording, especially stage performances. Everything was blurred, especially when stage lighting was involved. And it had become outdated as technology advances quickly.
Two years ago we invested in this Sony camcorder. I did as much research as possible. This wasn't easy as I'm not technical but I looked up, online, various camcorders and visited electrical and photographic stores, and asked lots of questions.
Our criteria was:
Ease of use
Amount of memory storage and method
Ease of transferring recordings to P.C.
We decided on the Sony 75e Handycam as it used a system new to us of using a hard drive rather than mini discs. This makes it quicker and easier to use owing to the fact that all recordings are stored straight to it's memory and there is no need to carry around tapes, or ever buy them again.
The task of recording mainly falls upon my husband, although I've been known to have a go. It's easy enough even for me! Hubby thinks it's a great improvement on the last camcorder and was an excellent buy.
We are amateurs and wanted this to record our daughter performing in her shows and competitions, and also to record family occasions. We were looking for various criteria, as stated, but very importantly, of course, was the picture quality. Now that we've used this many times and in different environments we are very pleased. the recordings are sharp and the colour good. The features we are most impressed with are:
One touch recording. Quick recording at the flick of a switch.
Touch screen playback. Choose playback option from the menu on the LCD screen . You can choose any recording from the library.
Sound quality. We find this is good and we've recorded many amateur concerts and competitions and are pleased with the results.
Weight. This handy cam is light to use and if you're recording for a long time then this is a big help. (300g)
It has an anti shake system which does work.
The zoom is easy to control and the results look quite professional.
My daughter usually takes over after filming, and quickly transfers footage to P.C. and sometimes on to her Youtube site, providing that she thinks the camera man has done a good enough job!
There's an adaptor enabling easy burning to disc. It also has a one touch disc burn.
This camcorder has 60 GB of hard drive.
Over 41 hours of recording memory and a memory card can also be purchased, although we haven't needed this so far.
The lens is by Carl Zeiss
The optical zoom is 25 x
The battery has served us well. It's not run out on us yet but we always make sure it's fully charged before use and then our recordings are usually of about 30 minutes duration but we've recorded for around an hour, on several occasions.
I purchased this camcorder from Comet but cannot find it there now. It is available from Amazon (around £300) and many on line outlets.
excellent value for money without resorting to HD quality. compact for storage and carrying. picture quality very good especially in very dark environments. indexing of videos makes finding saved videos incredibly easy, playback is superb as is ease of use, 1 handed operation no problem. Being able to record to memory stick or hdd makes it stand out from the crowd. in my opinion the best you can buy below Hi Def models and they only give you 30G or 40G recording space.
i actually dont own handycam as my sister-in-law, i have used it many times on our outings out any occasions and must say it is a lovely camcorder, as it states shoot upto 41 hours of megapixel quality video and stills is true it has given no problems to my sister in law she loves it so much that she has actually brought another one exactly the same just incase,,.. she got her camera from dell for £330 after some discounts i belive. it has great picture quality, and has given me great snaps of my children which have put onto dvd very good. i am also looking to buy 1 but mostly likely willl get a second hand one from ebay.
