Fujifilm FinePix JV160
by catrocks03
I got this camera about a year ago. I had asked for a digital camera as a Christmas present, at the time my son was 6 months old. I live 150 miles away from my close family so to be able to capture those little moments that come with young ones for my parents to see was important to me. I've been able to capture my sons first attempts at ... crawling, some of his vocabulary and his first attempts at walking. I of course am one of those snap happy parents who is constantly grabbing cute (I would think so wouldn't I!) pictures of my child.
=How the phone looks=
My camera is a dusky pink colour with a silver lens, just like the one in the picture. You can also get this camera in black. The back of the camera has a large lcd screen, this shows you the picture you are capturing and you can also use it to look through your pictures/videos.
It has a dial at the top of the back side, this allows you to switch for various modes such as automatic, video, taking two photos at a time etc. Theres a button below this with a play button which you press to see your photos. A button beow this toggles the display. There is then a circular button at the bottom of the back side which has a variety of options such as deleting a picture, the menu, taking flash off etc.
=What it comes with=
The camera comes with a plug for placing the battery in. This was the main feature for me- having a rechargable battery. My last digital camera went through batteries like nobodys business and it only got worse as the months went on! Now its so handy just to pop in the battery to charge once it gets low.
It also has a connector cord so you can put the photos onto your computer. If you were to use this camera you would have an sd card as internal memory is only about 5 pics. Unfortunatly not all laptops have an sd card slot. When our laptop broke our friend gave us her old one which didnt have an sd card slot so I was very pleased to found I hadnt lost the usb connector!
=Usage=
*PICTURE quality is very good if things are still! Something I've noticed as my toddler has got more active is its hard to capture a picture unless he is still for 5 seconds! Theres a slight delay on clicking for the picture and the picture to be taken. This is slightly annoying as you get a blurry, no good picture!
*VIDEO quality however I can't fault. The sound and picture are clear and I have managed to get some lovely videos captured (especially of the first attempts at walking) on youtube for family to see. Because of the great quality they do take up a bit of memory though.
*BATTERY life is reasonable. If you're just using this to take pictures you can go a week or more without having to charge. If however you're taking videos the battery will fade quicker.
It does warn you very eary on when battery is low. I recently went on holiday to visit family and forgot my camera charger. It told me on a Monday that my battery was low. I still took a lot of photos and it didnt fully run out until the Friday night which I thought was really good.
It doesnt take too long to fully charge the battery in the charger either, only about 2 hours.
=Durability=
My phone has been grabbed and thrown by little toddler hands, accidentally dropped out of my pocket onto hard floor and thrown about in my bag with little problems. The only damage is the door which leads to battery and sd card has one broken hinge so comes loose very easily. The screen/lens etc are all still in perfect condiiton a year on so I'm very pleased with how lasting it is.
=Pricing=
Looking online many places dont still stock this camera- I suppose the market is always coming up with bigger & better products! You can get it on ebay for around £40-£50. You can purchase it off this website http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/12910578/ art/fujifilm/finepix-jv160-pink-digita.html for £70.
Personally I'd chose the ebay route! Read the complete review |

Nikon D3100
by WolvenRize
At £363, the Nikon D3100 is a dSLR truly worth considering, with a pixel count of 14.2 million and a 23.1 x 15.4 mm CMOS sensor. Though counted as entry-level, it serves its purpose well, appeasing even the most experienced of photographers. Even if you might be a total newbie to the fascinating area of photography and have had no ... previous knowledge of how to use dSLR cameras or how they operate, the Nikon D3100 does its best to help you, incorporating a guide mode specifically there to help those who require it.
However, if you're a professional, don't worry, as the camera also has manual focused settings such as shutter speed and aperture priority, a programmable setting and a purely manual setting where one's able to control everything from ISO to exposure with a little button pressing.
The screen's easy to navigate, with bright colours and clearly labelled menu options, and the camera itself has a few snazzy photo-editing features that you can use to spice up your pictures. Moreover, the weight of the camera isn't too at approximately 505g, so you can take all the time you need creating those perfect little moments. Read the complete review |

Fujifilm Finepix AV100
by MegaDan
Firstly, let me start by saying this a great camera, it takes sharp pictures, with a huge array of different settings for things such as ISO, Lighting, Flash, image stabilization and Macro mode, it has different picture modes for different situations which it detects automatically or manually depending on your preference, it has face ... recognition and has a respectable 12 megapixels, the lens itself is also very good, resulting in extremely crisp pictures, with tremendous detail.
It shoots Full HD Video (1080p) which looks fantastic, even in darkly lit rooms it takes very clear videos, with lots of colour, the sound is also excellent, not tinny or distorted, it really is a great point and shoot HD video camera.
However, it is the with the Video camera that the 'rather annoying problem' arises, the camera comes with 3 video quality settings of 360p, 640p and 1080p, both 320p and 1080p work perfectly, but the problem occurs when you record in 640p, occasionally, if you record a video in 640p mode it will be out of sync by a long way, around 30 seconds, this makes the 640p function completely unusable and unreliable, and i would advise you not to use the 640p recording mode. (I have checked similar reviews and many people experience this issue so it's not just me)
The Camera design is quite nice, it fits nicely in the hand, it has virtually no internal memory, around 32mb, so you'll need a hefty SD Card as HD Video's can result in files of 500mb plus, i'd recommend a 8GB + card.
it requires 2 x AA batteries and on a full charge it will shoot around 60/70 minutes of HD video, or take around 150/200 pictures, I would much prefer a lithium ion battery as this device really does drain power fast! rechargeable AA batteries are a must for this camera, It also comes with the standard tripod screw area, and Mini USB slot.
All in all, overlooking the 1 major problem, this is a very good camera for a very low price, it can be picked up for under 50 pounds, and considering it shoots perfect 1080p HD, i am willing to overlook the 640p issue and award this camera a favourable 4 our of 5.
