Canon Powershot SX10 IS ... this year I decided I wanted a new camera, I also felt I wanted to move on from my Sony compact to a camera where I had the option for more control over what I was doing with it. Sometimes I felt my photos came out well through luck rather than judgement, and some didn t come out that well at all, especially in difficult lighting conditions, and I wanted to be able to make adjustments so that I didn t miss these shots. At the same time I didn t want a camera that was so complicated and technical that it made my brain hurt as then I would just not use it. Samsung ES55 ... got this camera over a year ago. I bought it from Argos for £80 as it was on special and it is on special again now at the same price. It is a great camera for the price that it is and takes brilliant clear pictures. I do have a couple of problems with it though. First thing being that the flash has a delay sometimes and you end up standing there waiting on the picture being taken! Also having rechargeable batteries is a must. I have had to send it back to samsung four times to be repaired, via argos due to the lens zooming out and becoming stuck and not coming back in. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 ... is a decent camera in its class, and does all the things it should do. However, I was disappointed for the following reasons: 1) picture quality is good but not exceptional. I can imagine that when used with a tripod the picture quality may be significantly better, but the idea fo a compact camera like this is that it can take those quick snaps when out and about and it doesn t do that particularly well 2) size: i decided to go with substance over style/size, hence buying this rather than the equivalent price nikon or even sony.
