Canon EOS 450D ... purchased the canon eos 450d as a gift for my girlfriend over 12 months ago. She had previously not owned an SLR and after weeks of deliberating i went for this particular model, and oh how glad i was. The key features that lured me in was the live view and the abilty to utilise the hundreds of lenses available. I had previously been into Nikons and own the D60, the 450d is leaps and bounds ahead of this. The sharpness of the image, along with shutter speed and frames per second beats mine hands down. We use the 450 more often than not for still images and have done paid work at family and friends weddings/christenings etc. The quality of the finished image is super and... Nikon D5000 ... bought the D5000 as my first D-SLR. My choice was between the Nikon and the equivalent Canon EOS 500D; having used the internet and camera magazines, it seemed there was little to choose between the two in terms of features and specification. I headed for the shops to looked at both cameras and see how they felt in the hand. Although my hands are not huge, I found the grip of the Nikon to be much more comfortable. In the hand, with the stock lens (18-55mm) attached, the camera feels nicely balanced.
