Canon Digital Ixus 300The stainless steel-bodied Digital IXUS 300 defines luxury and sophistication. Its ultra-compact design that is truly a work of art employs the latest optical technology. In fact, it is the world's smallest digital camera with a retractable, optical 3x zoom lens. The more powerful light guide flash, the new digital signal processing IC/CPU, and LCD monitor run more efficiently, requiring only a compact Li-Ion battery. This all boils down to a camera that's stronger, smarter, faster, yet more compact. You want your pictures to look their best, right? Well, quality pays. Canon technology gives IXUS 300 a 2.11-megapixel CCD, able to record a 1600x1200 pixel image. That's the resolution you need for a high-quality 8"x10" (20cm x 25cm) print. A new design for the ultra-compact and fully retractable zoom lens offers high resolution and low distortion. Used with the IC processing signal, the digital zoom smoothly engages to fill your frame with detailed, clear images up to the equivalent of a 265mm lens for 35mm format cameras. There's a macro mode, too; so, take pictures from far and wide, tight and close. Connect the cable to the optional Canon CP-10 Photo printer, put IXUS 300 into direct print mode, and you're there. With a resolution of 300x300 dpi, you'll get brilliant credit card-sized prints. Pick your preferred print settings, and you'll have the prints in mere seconds. With the new digital signal processing IC working in conjunction with the primary color filter, Digital IXUS 300 ensures that each photo shows its true colors, in every shooting situation. Canon advances in technology provide improvements governing optimum exposure, resolution, and color temperatures to virtually guarantee accuracy with the AE control system and various white balance settings. Different situations demand their own needs. IXUS 300 offers nine different image quality combinations with three pixel modes and three compression ratios. For best results, select superfine mode to lower the compression ratio and hold onto image detail sufficient for business purposes. Sometimes you want more than one shot. Record a movie clip to see every frame of that game-winning goal or basket. IXUS 300 can record movie at 20 frames per second in three pixel modes, for up to 30 seconds, maximum. They even have sound, and are saved as AVI files for you to keep. Play it back on your LCD monitor, your TV or your computer. My Canon Ixus 300 is first digital camera, and I have to say that I am incredibly pleased with the whole experience of using it. I purchased a 128MB memory card and a USB reader in addition to the camera. The 8MB card that comes with the Canon is very measly and you would only expect 8-10 hi-resolution pictures with this. Thus I think the 128 MB card makes a big difference. The Camera itself is easy to use and carry about in a front trouser pocket (Jeans may be tight!), and have used it on a couple of family outings already. Being able to see the picture you have just taken is a massive jump over a traditional camera. I find myself taking a lot more ... Read the complete review

When I bought this camera about 2 months ago I thought I was going to be in for trouble knowing how most electronic things I own break or just never work properly. But this hand-held Ixus is the best buy I have made for a long time. Not only does it come with a full download facility supplied by Canon called Zoom Browser, (I may add that this Browser is very user friendly), but the camera fits in the palm of your hand. With its sleek silver look and zoom option the Ixus is the best buy you can make for a digital camera. It is also very durable as I now use it for work purposes aswell as leisure. At work, on the Methanol Plant, I have dropped it and put it through ... Read the complete review

The Canon Digital Ixus. An invention of sheer class and style, it should make all other digital camera manufacturers blush. What we've got here is a tiny, light, easily transportable (pocket-sized) camera, with 2.11 megapixel (1600x1200 res) picture capabilities, video camera and all the other features you could ever want, in something as sexy and stylish as the Ixus. The zoom works very well - Optical zoom is, obviously, better than the digital zoom, however both produce brilliant results on a clear day. The image quality is crisp and clear - not a hint of distortion or pixelization even in the lowest quality mode (640x480). ... Read the complete review

Having discovered that the majority of review sites thought this camera was "good but expensive" I decided to take the plunge based purely on looks. It is very good looking. The price of the camera varies enormously online, in the end I surprisingly bought it from Amazon.co.uk, where they had bundled several etxras including a 128k flash card, making it significantly cheaper than other stores. 128k holds @ 200 pictures of a decent quality. Now that it has been as uselful and widely used as I had hoped, I will be looking to by a extra battery. Being a Canon, it came with 10 free prints from Fotango (an online printing service from Canon), so I ... Read the complete review
