When you first look at the Canon Ixus 70, its square styled body, might not be the best styling for some. But it is a love or hate camera, even for those who don't like its aesthetic appearance they would be impressed with its performance. But the modern styling does appeal to a certain degree.

One of its advantages is definitely the 0.3 second delay for the shutter, which is undoubtedly good for a compact camera. The quality of the images are very clear and it has quite a good contrast of colours and it does have reasonable colour accuracy. The quality of recording video is quite good, even on standard quality, but you could increase the quality, which would take up more space, hence less recording capacity. However, it still good overall. The quality of the movie does effect the space required, a memory capacity of 512 megabytes will only support about 4 minutes of video recordings which is quite short. Furthermore, when recording videos, it is limited to digital.

There is a short start up delay, which means you wouldn't have to furiously wait for the camera to turn on, when you're trying to capture the photo of a lifetime. It does not have a long processing time/process in between single shots and the rate of burst are quite substantial. Therefore this camera gives you the ability to snap shots when you need it the most.

The camera only has a bog standard 35mm to 105mm optical zoom, which is fine for matures and beginners or even the occasional photographer. But it would be suitable for taking normal photographs that do not require zooming over long distances or distant shots which are naturally more demanding.
Considering its size and weight, it would be a good choice for a first camera or for the occasional snapper.
