Advantages: Well built, easy to use

Disadvantages: No HD video, few 'advanced' features

The IXUS series has been going for 10 years and the benifits of that unbroken design heritage are plain, I recieved this camera as a Birthday present and I can report I am far from dissapointed! This is a solidly made device in gold or silver metal that feels comfortable in the hand and has easy to use controls. Its 4x zoom lense delivers very good images. The sensor is 'only' 10Mp, but that's more than enough resolution for most purposes, admittadly by my own confession I am a rank amatuer!. The 870IS shoots video too, saving standard-definition footage in the popular, space saving H.264 format. The lack of HD video was somewhat dissapointing particularly given that most of my hardware is HD ready, still this is a small price to pay for what is essentially a fantastic value camera.

£200 buys you a well built, good looking decent performing camera - Perfect for those drunken facebook snaps!
