Advantages: Excellent picture quality, Compact, Movie & sound ability
Disadvantages: Buttons maybe too small for some people, No protective case provided
...and I'd certainly have to agree with them! I have purchased several different products from Canon and have always been impressed with their quality, price and functionality. I'm not generally a brand loyal person, preferring to choose whoever offers me the product that most fits my needs. However, this I feel is a testament to Canon as they have obviously always impressed me with their products. But on to the Digital Ixus V.... When I first began looking for a digital camera I was unimpressed at some of the prices and features offered, in particular some of these cameras were extremely bulky and quite dull looking. All this changed when I saw the Digital Ixus, I was initially smitten with its compact look and quality feel. When I looked at the specifications I was even more impressed with what I saw - I had to have one! All of this was based on the original Digital Ixus, when I saw they had released their second generation Digital Ixus with movie & sound recording capability packed in as well I went on a quest to find the Digital Ixus V at the cheapest price possible. I'm no camera buff (I wanted the Ixus V for because of the gadget lover inside of me!), but I find the picture quality is exceptional and the range of features to help me take pictures very impressive : * Optical zoom (2.5x) * Digital zoom (5.0x) * Anti-red eye * Automatic flash * Auto focus * Macro mode * Self timer * LCD screen * Continuous shooting * Movie & sound recording * Picture quality & size * Stitch assist (create panoramic views) * PC connected shooting * Balance settings (e.g. cloudy, fluorescent) Or of course you can set up everything manually and take pictures exactly how you want them. J The only slight niggle I have is that for the price you don't even get a protective case for your camera, not even a cheap flimsy one to protect it from the occasional
knocks :( OK, this is hardly a problem but just seems a bit stingy & slightly inconsiderate.

- 26/07/01 Sounds superb although that list of features could have done with some explaining for complete camera novices like myself. Still gave you a VU though, the rest of the op deserved it :) Steve |
