Canon EOS 20D
Advantages: Cheap price now 2nd hand, good quality
Disadvantages: None really!
I bought this camera back in 2003 when it was first released. It has served me well over the last 6 years- I still use it as a backup camera just in case I have any problems. Don't be fooled by thinking that it "only" has a 8.2 sensor in it, this produces pictures big enough to print to A2!. The build quality of this camera is amazing, it feels like its not going to break in 20 years of use- couple that with the average life of the shutter being 100,000- means that even 2nd hand this camera will last and last. It takes both te EF and EF-S lenses- which means there is a huge choice for all. Be aware that this camera uses the crop sensor, so any lens will have its focal length multiplied by 1.6x, so 50mm will actually be 80mm. This means the kit lens that is supplied (18-55mm) will actually be more like 26-85mm. All in all, a great camera
Summary: Brilliant as a first DSLR.
