I borrowed this camera from a family member to take on a trip around the UK with me so I could take a few pictures and remember the time I had. It's also worth noting that the camera had an additional lens attached. My first impressions when just handling the camera were positive, it is well made, a little bit chunky but not too heavy on the hand - I was more than happy carrying it in its bag or with the strap wrapped around my wrist for pictures "on the go, so weight was not a problem. I've had cameras in the past where it felt like your fingers were supporting a building on your palms but this was just about right.
The system the camera works on it pretty simple to go through in all fairness, usually these types of cameras have one million settings to configure and then you have to stand in a certain light for a certain image to appear on the little LCD screen. Which, whilst I've mentioned it I may as well clearly state the little screen was invaluable when taking images and then reviewing them quickly without having to reel through the playback modes. Good feature! Otherwise, to select the various modes the camera can work off you use a circular-clicker on the top which swaps into the different modes immediately for you. However, I will say that for someone who didn't know how to set the aperture or shutter speed working some modes on the camera may be a bit daunting, I'm an avid photographer and it took me a few minutes to find various buttons to turn settings on and off which was a little frustrating but we got there in the end.
It's worth noting that the camera allows you to take up to 4 pictures immediately after one another which is highly suggestible, I've found that even when you think the image will be perfect from looking through the view there may be a problem when the picture is actually taken and taking a few images of the same scene allows you to choose the best and then remove the rest - another staple feature but one that is incredibly helpful. The picture quality with these SLR cameras is directly proportional to the quality of the photographer taking the image I always like to think but in general the night shots are of a high quality with very little glare from lighting in most cases and a fantastic auto-focus feature that I believe (I think I'm right) is the fastest for this line of Canon.
Overall I would certainly recommend this camera to any budding photographers and even those veterans as using it is a pleasure; I cannot recall a hassle, apart from setting up the modes, which you soon learn to do off the bat. The picture quality and general build of the camera is to a very high standard, something I would expect from Canon. Well recommended!
