Advantages: Light and easy to use!

Disadvantages: Kit lens is a bit soft in focus

Before embarking on a Photography Course at University I needed to invest in a Digital SLR. Being used to Canon cameras I opted for the Canon 400D, it was also the cheapest I could find on a £500 budget. A photographer friend of mine suggested that I spend more money on a camera then or I would regret it later, and to tell you the truth, although I have got some magic shots with the 400D I do wish I had splashed out on a more expensive SLR that would see me through my photography career a bit longer than this one has.

Don't get me wrong, this camera is great; it's light and easy to use. But it has it's draw backs for those of us who want a camera with a more robust body and features such as a faster drive speed for sports and wildlife photography.

Great for your first SLR camera and for those who like photography as a hobby. But not so good for those who want to take photography that stage further. However you will be surprised with the images you can get on this camera with the right lense attached.

Summary: Good starter SLR, but not so good if you want to be a professional photographer
