For such a compact camera, the IXUS255HS performs exceedingly well - featuring a high definition screen, quick response time and adaptive auto focus function. As expected, manual settings are limited.

if you want a decent camera buy it

I would give this camera a 10 out of 10 rating can't recommend it enough slim sleek stylish and very affordable, I shopped and around and this was by far the best money can buy although having said this that was over a year ago.. but the quality is superb and the camera has lasted me well, I use it for putting stuff online for sale on ebay and family events, if however you want a bit more advance I suggest you pay a bit more and get a more expensive one.

when i bought it it was top of the market so please bear that in mind when deciding to buy or not but i would 100% recommend it and love that it allows me to capture moments and events and is so so easy to use even if you are not very good with cameras no pervious knowladge needed

        fault prone great camera

I'm going to start off by saying that Canon are known for their high definition quality cameras and frequently used against other companies. I own 17 cameras 3 of which are produced by Canon, although this model in particular has a mere 12.1 mega pixel camera it is then supported by the 10 x optical zoom that allows pictures to be taken from long range.

Truthfully from buying this camera its been good and bad. Good because for £160 which cameras are usually priced at has lasted me for 3 yrs so far and yet there haven't been any faults i'm aware of, plus the picture definition is amazing as if i still exist in the photos that have been taken.

on the other hand the bad side is that technology is moving way too fast nowhere days in other words phones are becoming more powerful with regards to taking pictures and a load of other features and its only double the price.

but if you are a traveler this is a great asset to hold close to you.

        perfect little point and shoot

I loved this camera as soon as I got it out of the box. Looks great, it's small and it has lots of useable functions.

The quality of the photos this camera takes are just fantastic and the image screen is a crystal clear hd. The camera has a very quick response time especially compared to previous cameras I have had and the auto picture mode works great in all conditions.

The camera is a great slimline size which fits with ease in your pocket.
I got a free memory card included with my camera which meant I could get to work taking photos straight away.

The only downside to this camera is when I use the hd video function I find that when I play the video back there is a lot of noise distortion when the sounds each a certain volume.

Overall this Canon is a great little point and shoot camera and I would recommend it to friends and family.

Great little camera that outperforms in low light conditions

I was bought this camera as a gift for Christmas. When I first opened the box I was pleasantly surprised at how sleek and stylish the body was, and how lightweight and small the camera was, despite the fact it feels really heavy duty and robust. The 10x zoom is great compared to the usual 3x zoom you get on most cameras, and I had a lot of fun taking photos while out on a boat on holiday. The camera is also small enough to fit in a standard waterproof mobile phone pouch to take photos underwater, which is really handy as it means you don't need to pay loads of money for the official Canon underwater housing. The HS system basically means that the camera performs well in low light, so you can take a nice photo indoors or in the evening without having to have the flash on that makes photos look horrible. I haven't used the sharing online function over wifi yet, but it sounds like a really good addition. It's got a really lovely big screen which is great, but it means that the buttons are quite small and fiddly.

        Brilliant camera, highly recommend

Got this camera as a gift, it's not something I would ever buy myself thinking it would be too technical and difficult to use but the contrary is true. It does everything that a normal digital camera does i.e many different settings, zoom, crop, edit etc but is also has the ability to upload your pictures online instantly, this is great for sharing your pics on social media websites or emailing to family and it costs nothing to do unlike many mobile phones that charge for internet usage like this.
It is a small size so easy to keep with you at all times for when a photo opportunity arrives. I have nothing bad to say about this camera and would recommend it to anyone, I really to think this is the most efficient, easiest and highest quality camera that I have ever had, very pleased with it and nothing bad to say.

A fun good quality digital camera

The Canon Ixus 255 is a compact digital camera which is very stylish and compact and fits perfectly into your pocket and it is a brilliant little camera to have with you .
It is a fun camera which has excellent ,sharp image reproduction.
Not being of a technical mind, I was most impressed that the camera was simple to operate and very easy to use.
It has a Wi FI capability which makes it perfect for sharing your photos immediately with your friends.
It has a video recorder setting which records with HD quality, but which is awkward to use.
The battery life could be better and if you are using the video camera setting the battery runs down quickly.
Under some circumstances there is a "red eye " problem, but this is not a major issue as this can be fixed at a later date.
On balance this is camera represents excellent value with its Wi FI capability , a x 10 zoom specification and immaculate image production
It has a sharp image reproduction , easy to use and not too technical.
It's a perfect family camera to own if you like recording your happy holidays and celebratory occasions and
Represents really excellent value for money , costing in the region of £200

        Great camera

This is a great camera with first class picture quality. I bought it because, although my Fujifilm Finepix S200EXR is a great camera, it doesn't exactly fit in my pocket when I don't want to carry a big camera about. I was worried that the Canon IXUS would not keep up with the Fujifilm but I was wrong.
The IXUS255HS is amazingly slim and fits easily in a pocket. The image screen is superb high definition. The camera has a quick response time and the Auto Mode works in almost any conditions. I can see why Computer Shopper gave it a Best Buy award.

The menu takes a bit of getting used to; but that's often the way with very small cameras. The only downside is that it is impossible, in any mode, to set the aperture or shutter speed. However, one can tweak it by changing the ISO. Even ISO 1600 has very little grain in the end result. In the end, I found that leaving everything on Auto worked fine. Download the manual from Canon before you buy to see all its other Bells and Whistles.

I would buy this again in a heartbeat. Had it a year and still loving it!

I've had this camera for almost a year now, and honestly haven't had a single regret since buying it. It's nice and small, fits perfectly into a pocket, the casing is really strong, and has protected it against a number of scrapes and drops. The image quality is fantastic. It has an auto mode, which is great... In the past I have always set the settings before taking a photo, however this mode really is fantastic and it selects the mode best for the photo.

Night time photos come out great, it works well in low light levels with barely any speckles or noise.

It has all the normal scene modes, and also a programme mode who you can set individual settings (helpful for technical photos). It also has a range of fun features, such as the miniature mode, the toy camera mode, and the slow motion to name just a few of my favourites - all of which seem to produce surprisingly good photos, as good as could be achieved through photoshop or similar.

The screen is also really good, it works well in bright sunlight, and indoors produces really crisp high quality colours which are accurate to print.

When viewing the images, you can create sideshows of people, scenery, events etc which makes it really nice to look back at your photos on the camera-something I usually leave until I'm near a computer.

The continuous photo mode is comparable to that of a DSLR, it is fantastic at taking action shots without blur or distortion and has ended up with some lovely pictures.

Before I bought this camera I used many online reviews to make sure that I was getting a good quality camera for my money and I really have done. Really pleased, if I were to have the choice again I would definitely choose this camera again. It does everything that I could have asked for, and has some extra bonus features which make it a joy to use.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Good buy for the avid photographer.

I must confess I love taking taking pictures and in this day and age, everybody uses a smartphone or a tablet to take quality pictures. But you know, some pictures don't really need to be in HD or over photo-shopped, especially those that you plan to treasure for a lifetime.

I for one, hate smart phone photos, especially when you transfer them to your PC and print them out, they just don't give you that professional quality you desire. It's actually sad now that not a lot people carry cameras around, it's all smartphones which quiet frankly is boring.

So I decided to invest in a good quality camera that will give me the pictures of a lifetime. Since I own several cannon products (laser jet printer/photocopier) I trusted that their camera wouldn't disappoint me and what do you know, it exceeded my expectations!

        Features:

        1. It has a 10x zoom feature which is fantastic because you can zoom an image that wide and the image is not distorted or blurry and you capture a much larger area. You can photograph 150 foot radius away from where you are and still get a perfect clean HD picture, which takes me to point number 2..

        2. IT's HD QUALITY! Yes the quality you get is phenomenal and each picture is like you added a photoshop feature but really you just snap and the quality is striking more appealing.

        3. It's got a rotating lens.. which means it can photograph as wide as 200 foot radius. Most pictures only go as far as 75 foot radius. So if your taking a wedding or family photo, no more squeezing together to get every one in the shot. The camera has an inbuilt bright 3inch screen which is able to condense the photo but not compress it so the photo looks as real as when the shot was taken.

        4. It has wifi! Now that's what sold me. I was always so sick and tired of having to remove the memory card, load it to my PC then send it to my friends and family. With this camera, you can connect and instantly share your professional photos!

        5. It has a GPS log and a SAT NAV coordinator.. Basically the camera keeps a tab on all of your locations where you're taking the photos so if you forget where you took the photo, it will easily remind you.

        6. Brilliant resolution of up 12 megapixels and the videos look like your have film crew and you've done some impressive editing because of it's exceptional image quality and sophisticated design. Most cameras have like a 30 minute video take but this one can take up to four hours.

        7. Extremely fast performance. That's right you can take 20 photos in one snap shot. You have the option of switch and shot, which means you can get one photo analysed from several different angles. I also like the feature of auto snapper where you can leave it on a designated place, set it to just take random photos and since it has a rotating lens, it can capture pretty much as many pictures as you would if you were physically snapping the photos.

        8. Very strong battery.. it's a chargeable battery that you only charge like once or twice a month depending on how much you use it. I take a lot of photos and videos and I only charge once every month so it's super ideal for camera lovers.

        Downside:

It's quiet expensive. Prices range from £193 -£225 depending upon which retailer you choose. Only buy this if you have a passion for photography.

It's not very friendly with other devices..i.e. it's not compatible with other devices so if you need to print pictures, use a cannon printer for best results. It also doesn't sync with Android devices (Especially blackberry phones) It OK with IOS devices.

        Recommendations:

If you love taking photos every two seconds to share on your Facebook and twitter, I suggest you stick to your smart phone. I would recommend this if you love taking professional photos or if you are an active Pintrest member who loves to post quality pictures. For those that sell their pictures on iStock photos, this camera will bring you more happy customers. So all in all, it's a fantastic camera and it's best in the hands of someone who will frequently use it!
