Advantages: Powerful zoom, shuttle speed low delay, good battery stamina

Disadvantages: Does not offer a wide range of manual settings

The Canon A2000 IS looks rather dull and boring, it lacks the spark that a camera needs to have when you pick up and use it. The chosen colour tones don't really give an interesting contrast, therefore those that are fashion conscious might find it like a plague. However, for those who don't care about aesthetic appearances, it is quite a decent camera.

In terms of weight, this camera is heavier than average. Despite this, the camera's size is still compact enough to carry around. The camera also has quite a powerful zoom, with up to 6x zoom that is enough to zoom over a reasonable distance, which is handy if you are creative and like to explorer new ways of capturing images. A powerful zoom alone does not mean a camera will be great, therefore this camera also has an image stabiliser that helps you to capture sharp photographs when taking them in a distance.

The camera has a rather high ISO setting which is up to 3200, however you would need to make a compromise by setting the resolution to 2 megapixels which is not a huge problem. But the image is still slightly disappointing, with noise appearing as a result of using the camera in poor lighting conditions.

Being a compact camera, it does not give you much control over settings in terms of being able to fine tune the values of manual focusing, shuttle speed or aperture. This is not a disaster, but it would limit your ability to get really creative with taking photos in a demanding way.

There are thirteen different scene modes that give you the ability to quickly find the mode that adapts best to your shooting conditions. This type of settings are useful if you are the type that does not enjoy spending too much time changing the settings continuously before taking a single photo.

The camera's auto focus is quite well suited for the job, which means you won't have to worry about photos being blur or missing the clarity that you seek. Furthermore, the face detection feature makes it possible to enhance the photo even further without having to mess around with manual settings.

The shutter is quite fast, which means you won't need to sit around waiting in disbelief when you just missed the photo opportunity of a lifetime. The flash is quite powerful with an equal distribution of light to most rooms, it is also not to strong, as to make the image too bring.

The camera's battery stamina is quite good, providing quite a high number of photos before needing a charge. As a whole, you'll be impressed by the quality of the images captured with good colour accuracy and a good dynamic range. The high resolution makes it possible to enlarge the photographs to be printed without having any distortion in quality.

Summary: A powerful compact camera but it does not truly give you the freedom to fine tune your photos
