When we first got the camera it was really wowy by comparison to the old sony we we're using with a floppy disc in it!! Nowit doesn't look so good by comparison to the 7MP models but to be honest - when do you NEED 7MP. Again, it serves us fine. Premium Review Canon Powershot A300: Always reliable - even with kids (418 words)
by - written on 06/01/08 (Very useful, 47 readings)

This is just a quicky review so I apologise in advance for it's brevity and lack of details. Check the product information for the specs. I have used this camera in school where I teach for quite a while now. It's used by staff to capture those 'special moments' along with a couple of other models. The camera has proven to be quite a robust and reliable snapper without being to complicated. It gets a lot of usage from lots of people including the kids and has never failed. The resolution is low at 3.2MP compared to newer camera but it does us fine for snaps around the school. The digital zoom is OK as far as a digital zoom goes but sometimes ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Imaging on a budget (365 words)

The Canon A300 was my first venture away from Olympus digital cameras. I was attracted by the feature rich camera that seemed to offer quality for a mid-range price. I paid 169ukp but they are now available for less. Initially I found the Canon hard to get to grips with and I think this is true for people migrating away from Olympus. There is a whole host of menus and at times the icons for particular selections did not seem immediately intuitive. Thirty minutes with the instruction book soon put paid to this problem however and I now find the camera as easy as any previous products to use. Once you get used to using the camera the number of features is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Canon Powershot A300: What a camera! (379 words)
by - written on 14/09/05 (Useful, 73 readings)
Rating:

The Canon PowerShot A300 is a really good digital camera. It has the ordinary *auto* mode that enables it to be used as a simple point and click family camera, and also boasts numerous manual settings that can be defined by the more serious amatuer. On standard shots the results are excellent, Macro (close-ups) of down to 1-2inches are razor sharp and extremely good quality. The digital zoom is certainly adequate to cover most needs although obviously not as good as an optical zoom, but at the price of this camera one cannot expect everything. It is the same as all digital cameras when using ordinary alkaline batteries, Useless!! ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Good Value For Money (278 words)
by - written on 09/05/03 (Useful, 746 readings)
Rating:

I recently purchased a Canon A300 Powershot from Amazon, after a lot of research I decided this was the best camera for the price. I only paid £160.00, Dixons, Jessops, Jacobs etc are selling the same camera between £199 - £230. But enough of the waffle these were the deciding factors in my purchase. 1. Its 3.2 Megapixel resolution (photo quality 2,048x 1,536 pixels or printing A4 size) 2. Movie capability upto 640*480 with sound 3. The ability to store a 60 sec soundbite with each camera 4. 5.1 Digital Zoom 5. Photo effects of Vivid, Neutral, Low Sharpening, Sepia and Black&White 6. Macro and Infinity modes 7. Intelligent ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Canon Powershot A300: Easy as chips (151 words)
by - written on 30/12/05 (Somewhat useful, 66 readings)
Rating:

I won this camera in a draw and didn't bother with it until Christmas. The battery took far too long to charge but that's more down to me being impatient than a problem with the camera. I 'played' with it using the really easy guide, and took some really good pics with it. I use it mostly to take pics of stuff I want to sell on Ebay and they are far better than the mobile phone camera I used before. It's self focusing, and there pretty much looks after itself. If you leave the shutter open too long, it closes. It has automatic timer and different picture modes. Landscape, portrait, night scenes, self portrait and movie. 3.2 megapixel, which I have to say, doesn't ...  Read the complete review
