Ive had this camera for a while now, its never let me down. The picture quality is excellent, its a 5 mega pixel camera but the quailty of the photographs is on par with some on the samsung range which can go up to 10 mega pixels. Canon have always produced excellent picture quality, and like in many of there products the pictures hold emphasis on to the colours blue and green making them appear vibrant on the camera screen and on photo paper. Many other cameras often dull down the colours after taking a photograph which i find disappointing, but you cannot fault the quailty image the canon produces. The camera itself has the usual variety of settings, which i have yet to master but are there for those with a more advanced camera skills. They include the variation of the shutter speed for continuous photographs, colour changes, contrast changes, settings for landscape, portrait and video. For those like me, who are unsure how to use the more advanced setting the automatic setting cateres for everything. Very simple to use, great sensitivity to differently lit enviroments and fast shutter speed. What i have found particulaly good about this camera is the ease of taking a good quality photograph that is not blared! I have found friends get frustrated when trying to take a photograph on there camera (some samsung type) because they are always blurry or the lighting is to dark or to light however the canon has always out performed all of these. Clear, beautifully produced pictures everytime.
The only downside to this camera is the fact it is quite bulky so for those who are planning to take it out and about for night out this may not be the best camera as i have often struggled squeesing it into one of my night out bags. However for quality and great value more money this is a really excellent buy, comparing this camera with others which boost a higher mega pixel or fast shuttle speed i feel that this beats them all hands down and would definetly recommend it for anyone
The Canon A610's aesthetic appearances which is rather chunky and professional, with a silver body and modern styling the camera does have its attractive sides, despite its size. However the camera's appearances does reflect on the quality of its performance.
The camera's lens has a 35mm to 140mm zoom range which is quite high for a camera of its size, this zoom capability would give you the chance capture your creative shots from a distance without struggling too much. Its flash capabilities are also equally as impressive, with a powerful flash that fill the room with light equally. The auto focusing function is also good, taking quite a short time to focus clearly on objects.
The shuttle delay of the camera is 0.3 seconds, which is the exact time it takes for the camera to actually capture the image from the moment you press the shuttle button. The camera can also be quickly turned on, due to its 2.4 second start up delay. As a whole, the images are quite standard with nothing special, it has a good dynamic range and colour accuracy.
The viewfinder of the camera, is a useful function to have in a digital camera. Because although you might not use it primarily or heavily, its great when you don't want to use the LCD display screen and wish to use the viewfinder instead to conserve battery.
Another situation where a viewfinder might come in handy is when the sunlight is just too intense to use the display screen due to reflections. The burst mode of the camera is quite impressive, mainly because it is capable of taking a photo continuously until the memory card runs out of the space or the battery runs flat.
There are also a wide range of manual settings that give you the freedom to fine tune the camera to achieve the best shot possible, which allows you to expand your creativity. The camera slo supports USB 2.0 that makes the task of file transfer much faster.
I borrowed this camera from my brother for a Christening that we were invited to this weekend, what an excellent camera. I found it easy to use and more importantly easy to take good quality photographs so much so I don't want to give it back!
This particular model has a 2G flash memory card but the camera is supplied straight from the box with a only a 16MB card. I needed to install the cameras software onto my computer so my brother supplied me with the complete box. The camera comes with the usual software to instal onto your PC which will enable you to transfer your photos from camera to PC. You also receive a USB transfer cable, arm strap and of course an instruction manual. I had no problems loading the software onto our PC and transfering photos was very easy, just plug the camera into the USB cable and follow the instructions. One of the things that I really like about this camera is the 2in LCD screen which turns in all directions enabling you to hold the camera in all different positions but still be able to see the screen. With this camera you can also try your hand at making your own high quality movies with sound track - there is fast frame mode at 60 frames per second (QVGA), standard at 30 fps (VGA) and compact e-mail mode (QQVGA). Overall all I need from a digital camera is something easy to use and a camera that takes good quality photos making this camera perfect for me.
I own this cam over a year and it's really amazing quality. Especially the video function is (whitin natural limitations of a cam) almost pro quality. (You should take enough sd-cards, 2 GB for ca. 16-18 min of video). I have made short films with this that are great for web publishing as well as VCD. The picts are good enough for print publishing, if you shoot correctly :-) As it's a small cam, you can film freely and discretly without fuzz. The picts are of better quality than some 10 MPx cams, the balance with 5 Mpx and this chip is very accurate, results are much better than with some never or bigger cams. Only with this canon A610 model, the next were not that good.
The surprising PowerShot A610 offers many features you'd expect to find only on higher end models. For example, there's a 5.0 Megapixel CCD that lets you print large, richly detailed prints. Just as importantly, this camera is equipped with a complete range of advanced functions that make shooting relaxed and simple - whether you're a novice or a pro.
