Canon Powershot S20PowerShot S20 draws on Canon's camera making heritage, offering responsive handling to match conventional film cameras. Extreme simplicity of use, enhanced by extensive preset and user definable functions, make PowerShot S20 a market leader for the new millenium. Fitted with an extensive range of advanced fully automatic digital functions including TTL (through the lens) metering and automatic white balance, PowerShot S20 is ideal for people who know very little about photography, but want to produce professional quality images. For the more advanced user, PowerShot S20's image mode has settings to cope with landscape, fast moving subjects (sports), slow shutter, night time shooting and black and white, while PowerShot S20's program mode offers full control of image resolution, compression, exposure compensation, flash, white balance, sharpening and contrast for maximum control over the final image. The PowerShot S20's extremely high quality, high-resolution images can be stored on either standard CompactFlash memory cards, or for hundreds of high quality images the CF Type II slot accommodates IBM's impressive microdrives. Digital signal processing technology ensures that the data from the high quality large images is processed and stored in record time. This makes sure the camera is always ready for the next shot. PowerShot S20 features an expanded playback function that lets you zoom in on an image by 2.5x. Then using the omni-selector you can scroll the image in the display. Due to the use of a custom DSP PowerShot S20 performs replay, expansion and scrolling at high speeds. The combination of the speed of operation and playback zoom quickly allows you to check the focus of the key points in your images. PowerShot S20 offers a complete 'out of the box' solution to digital imaging. As standard the camera is supplied with 16MB CompactFlash memory card, rechargeable battery, battery charger, AC adapter, connecting cables (serial/USB/video), software for PC and MAC plus user manuals for both software and hardware. Okay, so you own a PC, and you're pretty keen on photography. Not a professional, no, but someone who takes quite a lot of photos. Maybe you already have a traditional 35mm automatic camera. The question you're asking yourself now could be: "Is it time to get a digital camera?" A year ago the answer was certainly "no!" But there are more reasons for responding "yes!" in 2001. Whereas digital imaging technology used to be grotesquely expensive, it's now merely breathtakingly pricey. Features that were rare or non-existent on early digital cameras are now commonplace. And perhaps most important of all, the market for ... Read the complete review

We picked this camera up on the cheap while in singapore and it has been the best £500 we spent. We were going to Aussie for a holiday and we needed a camera, so being into the internet and computers and all I decided to purchase the Canon camera. The nice man in Sigapore pointed it out and went on to describe what the little device can do, well to start, the camera takes pictures uses 3.3 pixels instead of the average 2, so that means that you get better image quality. The size of the photo can be huge at 1280 by 1024 pixels - thats a big picture however you can only take a small amount of this size picture. I was quite happy to use a standard 640 by 480 ... As I had a pleasant bonus from my employer, I decided to upgrade to a new digital camera. I spent quite some time researching the web to find one that I thought I might go for. It turned out to be a choice of the Canon S10 and the Kodak DC480, as they were within my specification and price range. However, when I went to my local PCworld, the S20 was on special offer, and I guess I must have saved over £150 on the list price. I fell in love with the thing very quickly! The size did worry me at first as I have fairly large hands, but the controls are well designed, and it is very easy to use. I like the different modes of operation - the panoramic method, ... There aren't many things that let this camera down - it's small, with some very nifty functions. It has a 2x zoom and comes with batteries, charger, mains adapter, 16MB card which in reality is only about 8 pictures in best quality. This can be greatly increased by using the IBM Micro Drive. You can get up to 1GB for around £380 which means you can take loads of pictures. The nifty feature that I like is the stitch assist mode which means you can take a sequence of photographs in a line, say of a landscape and then when you get back home Canon software helps you stitch them together. It doesn't come with a case which is probably it's ... Read the complete review
