Small, light and feature-packed (Canon Digital Ixus 700)

Advantages: Great picture quality Disadvantages: Not the cheapest I was after a new model to replace my old brick of a camera when some friends suggested I might like to try a Canon Digital IXUS. I was very impressed with the bright screen and the stunning image quality, so much better than that of cheaper cameras (even those quoting a higher image resolution). It's small and light enough to keep in your pocket at all times and is ready to shoot in about a second. Battery life is excellent, with several hundred snaps possible from a single charge. The body can scratch quite easily but the camera, overall, is very tough - mine has been dropped several times with no ill effects! The menus are easy to navigate (although some options may take some time to locate) and there's even a mode to help create panoramic shots which you are able to compose later on your computer. There are many built-in shooting modes for different conditions, but I find that I most often use the manual mode which offers the most tweakable settings. Features do fall short of a proper SLR camera as you might expect, but for a compact there's plenty to go on. Summary: A very high quality compact camera
