Advantages: Easy to use settings, nice size
Disadvantages: Price, more pixels are available in other cameras
I have owned my IXUS 700 for three years now and have never been disappointed with its performance.
I actually have two cameras of the same model, one of which I use as an underwater camera when scuba diving with the Canon WP-DC70 Waterproof Case.
In addition to the land features mentioned on other reviews, I rate the IXUS 700 as a cheap digital underwater camera solution for anyone wishing to break into underwater photography.
The IXUS 700 was the first Canon model to come with an underwater scene setting which allows even the novice to obtain excellent quality underwater shots. Plus you can use the manual settings once you are accomplished with the camera features to achieve enhanced white balance effects.
Being such as popular camera with its underwater settings, it is easy to pick up additional fittings to hold underwater macro, fish-eye and wide angle lenses from specialist dealers. With the IXUS 700 being such a good size, even with these additions, you can still enjoy the dive without worrying about cumbersome photographic kit.
I have used the video regularly on this camera to capture some really great experiences such as a close encounter with a turtle in the Maldives and an Octopus in a panic shooting its ink whilst retreating back to his coral home. The easy switch between still photo settings and video on the IXUS allowed me to capture these moments efficiently. Whilst never competing with a dedicated video camera, this is an added bonus for a digital still camera.
Overall, this is a great investment camera which provides greater scope on holiday.
Summary: Ideal for someone wanting a good all round digital camera with the ability for underwater shots
