I find myself returning to Canon whenever I make a new purchase of a digital camera. I always find the image quality to be exceptional. This camera is no exception - its focus on the foreground is impeccable, leaving you with a professional quality image.
Gig photography is my main concern when buying a camera. I really underestimated the power of the 20x optical zoom. For anyone who frequents gigs and festivals, you'll know that it's not always easy to get to the front for that close-up shot. However, with this lens, that's not a problem. It allows you to zoom right in on your subject without sacrificing the quality of the image at all.
My only issue with this camera is the fact that it's not great at taking videos. Its videoing capabilities are fine for general purpose use, but as I like to record a couple of videos at gigs too, I soon found that this camera was not the best. The intensity of the sound proves to be too much for the speakers. The sound becomes so distorted and it's frankly just unpleasant to listen to. So if you're looking for it to take high quality videos as well as pictures, this isn't your best choice.
However, in my opinion, this camera more than makes up for its poor video quality with the number of shooting modes available. It's a godsend when it comes to photographing gigs as it can adjust to the different lighting so easily. Aside from that, it also has a sleek design, durable body, great battery life and I love the pop-up flash. Definitely my favourite camera by far.
I have also DSLR and wanted an alternative so I didn't have to lug the DSLR around on long trips and save space. The picture quality is 100 times better than what i get from my ELPH 300 HS. The auto focus speed is extremely good on this camera and video looks crisp.
A few bad things with the camera are: The flash location is bad its where most people would want to put their finger however other high end point and shoots seem to have it in the same stupid location. I think they should add a led flash in the body of the camera not a pop up one. Another bad thing is the battery life it doesn't last very long at all however i have heard there is a firmware update hopefully this will fix the problem. You need to carry 2-4 batteries with you as an extra if you want to keep shooting throughout the day. I can put up with the problems because of how good the image quality is and hopefully the software update will improve the battery life of the camera if they remove the popup flash on the next version and solve the battery problem it will be the perfect pocket point and shoot camera.
I'm really crazy about taking photos to capture every event of my life. I was patient with my old Samsung camera but it always gave me an error message every time I used it and kept on corrupting my photo files. When I went to the Samsung center to ask for some help they advised me to reformat the software, so I let them do it, but it didn't fix the issue. So I decided to just buy a new camera instead.
I thought about buying one of those big lenses with higher resolution, but they're really heavy and not suitable for carrying every day, so I bought my Canon PowerShot SX280 HS camera a few months ago. I know Canon is reliable and they've never failed me - I have an old Canon photo printer and it's always given me nice print outs, so I've always considered Canon a value for money brand.
I chose this model over the big lense models, because it's practical and handy for me to use and a good price. I'm happy with the pixels and its zoom ranges capability, it's always given me a beautiful capture for photos of whatever angle I wanted and I'm happy with its other features, like built-in Wi-Fi so I can update my albums online and share them on social networking sites and upload my current captured photos right away whenever I can access a Wi-Fi signal.
I also like its smart auto feature, which gives me a better capture of photos than the normal display mode. There's actually a lot of nice features to play with in this camera, like adding a snow background, fireworks display and underwater effects to my photos, and a mode that lets you beautify profile photos by removing spots and smoothing the skin - great for boosting confidence!
Another nice thing about this camera is that it can record HD video in up to 1080p resolution, and you can edit the videos on the camera without having to transfer them to the computer first. You can alter the recording and playback speed too, to watch movies in super slow motion.
In terms of battery life I'm always lazy with charging - I used to just charge it for a few minutes from being empty and use it right away, which basically means that I can just get a few hours of using it. Now I learned to make it fully charged before using it so I can be satisfied to use it longer than a day, especially when I have an emergency outing.
The only negative thing that I noticed about this camera is that if I'm in a poorly lit room I can get slight interference and blurring on the camera display, but then after when I view it, it was actually an okay photo - but not as beautiful as when I'm in better lighting, when it's clearer and I can see more details. I guess that's just because it has automatic detection for night mode scenes.
