Advantages: zoom, battery life, picture quality, small
Disadvantages: video quality isn't the same level as the pictures
I received this camera as a present because my stepfather got on really well with it and recommended it. My old camera was unfortunately ruined by sand while on holiday so this was my upgrade.
The pictures are amazing quality for a compact; I honestly could not expect more for the price. I've had a lot of problems in the past with cameras with a slow reaction time (i.e. a long time between the point where you press the shutter and when the picture actually takes) but this is a real point and go camera.
There is video compatability and the video quality is pretty good, but you won't win any prizes for the movies you create - they are simple home videos.
There are a number of editing options on the playback mode - you can adjust the lighting, brightness and correct for red eyes. These are all good settings but if you really want to edit the pictures well, it's best to use a computer programm so you can see the detail properly.
If you are an amateur photographer and like to play with settings and really know your way around a camera this might not be exactly what you're looking for as the camera has very little option to configure settings - it does everything for you. You are unable to change shutter speed and aperture size. The zoom is fantastic - 10 times - and the battery life is amazing. I used the camera for 10 days on holiday and didn't have to recharge which was handy - the friend I was with had a camera which always ran out at the most inconvenient times. It comes with a mains battery charger which takes about 2 hours to recharge the battery.
Memory is in the form of an SD card which slots in easily on the bottom next to the battery.
Would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to take great photos with very little effort.
Summary: perfect for point and go pictures - the best holiday camera I have ever used
