It's been 8 years that I have this Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z8 camera and it's working and looking as new.
Over the years I had only one problem: the original battery was swollen inside the camera so I had a little hard time pulling it out, but I finally did it and I tried to the nearest shop to buy a new one. They told me I have to order it and the price was like 70% of a new camera, so I said no.
But I found a compatible battery (not original Casio) over the internet, very cheap, and I still have it.
About the camera, I'm very pleased, even if now I realize it's pretty old, for me the 8.1 Mega Pixels it's more than enough.
You can also record only audio or even make short movies (one of the presets it's optimized for YouTube).
The best pictures are the ones made outside with strong sun from the back, but also the postcard type of pictures with a beautiful scenery (for that you have to put your camera on a tripod, or just in a way it doesn't move at all).
I use a 16 GB SD Card (I'm sure it works even with the 32 GB version) so it's easy to transfer all I want from the card to my laptop, if I don't want to use the USB cable provided.
It also has a special cable to connect the camera directly to your television, with RCA connection.
The quality of the camera is good and photos are also easy to load on to the computer as the software for the computer is good.
The camera is able to take lots of photos in quick succession, this is a great feature as if you miss the shot you will get another opportunity straight after. The zoom on the camera is also good and it can pick out detail which you wouldn't usually notice. There are also a huge number of settings that allow you to take pictures in almost any setting, such as at a party, underwater or in normal daylight.
The camera itself looks good and there is a wrist strap that stops you from dropping it and breaking it. There is a large screen and buttons are in good place. You are also able to delete photos from the camera, rather than having to wait until you use a computer.
The major problem with my camera is that the charger stopped working. We initially took the camera into the shop and they said that the battery broke (as it often does with Casio products) but it turned out to be the charger. We did not realise this and ended up buying spare batteries.
I absolutely love this camera. It's been my buddy for 3 years now and has travelled the world with me! I really can't say enough good about it. The Best Shot functions are great because they are preset so that if you dont want to fiddle with the setting to get a shot right you don't have to. The BS functions I use the most are Macro, Night scene and the colour settings. But I remember while traveling there were certain moments where I used others. The on screen quick menu options are amazing too, the flash settings (with low flash which a lot of cameras dont have) and face detection, shake control etc. The screen and zooms are great and also the battery life is good, has not deteriorated since I first got it and it has been used an incredible amount! The only problems I've had with it were probably as a result of turning it on when the zoom was restricted in its case so it caused it to say system error or something but it fixed itself! I would really recommend this camera and I produced profesional quality photos that my photographer travel buddies were proud of!
