Splashing out £300+ for a personal camera might have been rare before the digital consumer camera entered the stage a few years back. Nowadays, it seems that you should be willing to pay £500+ for the same quality you get from your £40 APS pocketable. I my search for compromise, I set my bar to 2 megapixels and optical zoom, under £500 with a reasonable amount of memory. This camera from Casio has all the features that you would expect from a point-and-shoot camera, and quite a few actually useable manual modes as well.
