Advantages: Superb photos, Easy to use, Nice to hold
Disadvantages: Could be cheaper!, Lens Cap
This Camera, which is the updated version of the QV3000, has some great improvements. The resolution of the camera is 3.3 mega pixels which is the same as the previous version. Take a look at my review of it's earlier incarnation and you will see that I rated that camera and the pictures it takes as being top quality. With a three times zoom plus a twelve times digital zoom, a superb macro and a top quality Canon lens the camera produces great pictures and when they are are printed out on a decent printer they are top quality. I am now using 'Kodak Ultima Ultra Glossy paper' and the result is much better than the photo's my wife got back from 'York Photo' today! It is an easy to use camera, just point and click, but you can make it as complicated as you like with the ability to alter all the settings. The camera now sports a new animated icon menu screen and what was already an easy to use system has become even better. Controlled by a 'menu' button and a 'set' button, scrolling through the different menu levels and options is done by using a 'game pad' type rocker. The display is really clear and easy to understand. It now comes with a 'best shot' mode which is set up on the menu screen with '28' choices of shot to scroll through. Everything from a single portrait, groups, etc (with the background out of focus if required) to moving water shots or moving objects can be set up at the touch of a button. The shots that have been taken can be 'previewed' or watched in a slide show on the bright LCD and can be deleted if necessary. The camera has had a change of colour for it's update - it's now changed from grey to black! Because the lens extends automatically and auotfocuses from the camera when switched to record the lens cap is a small problem. It has inherited the silly lens cap from the previous model. If you switch the camera to 'record
' before removing the cap it will not operate! Plug the camera into your USB port and the 'Photo Loader' software recognises the camera immediately and loads the photo's into folders in date order to your hard drive and displays them in Internet Explorer for browsing.

- 25/07/01 Sorry for the SU rating, but you actually need to include all the details about this camera in this op, not expect us to look at an earlier opinion on a different camera, even if this is just a newer version with a few extra features. Alan |
