Advantages: Good Looks, Cheap, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Only VGA but at this price who cares?
I found the Digital Dream 2800 dual mode vga camera at my local Staples store. I was after a camera with a flash cheaply to take back to uni with me, For under £100 the price was great. Also the camera actually looked like a normal camera. It comes complete with a built in flash with batteries, leads and a case. MGI Photosuite SE software is included, allowing easy transfer of images from the camera to computer. However I prefer the ULEAD photo express packaged with the digital dream l’esprit, the 2800’s little bucktoothed brother. This camera can be hooked up to a PC via the supplied USB or serial connection leads. Also you can connect it to a TV to preview your images which I thought was a really groovy feature. Also you can use this camera as a webcam through the USB port. Here however the picture is quite dark and shaky. I tend not to use this feature so it has not really affected me but if you are buying because of this feature it’s worth knowing. All camera functions are controlled from a small LCD screen and 4 buttons at the back. Can get a little tricky in the dark to check whether the auto flash is on. Otherwise, superb control system. Also has self timer and exposure settings. This camera offers 2 levels of picture quality - at “fine” quality only 16 images can be stored (according to the box. However in my experience this tends to be the minimum it can store, I have had anywhere from 18-34 photos in there on returning from a night out. The extra pics make for a bit of a fun surprise!), and in normal mode you can store 32. As I tend not to use this mode I cannot tell you how many you may be able to squeeze out. Probably best to stick with what it says on the box so as to not be disappointed! The picture quality is ok, not amazing but more than adequate for my needs. I would definitely recommend this camera as an introduction to digital cameras. Mine has survived many a drunken nig
ht out to provide me with an idea of what I actually did! A great little camera.

- 21/12/01 Nice one! I too am impressed with the DD. Also I find the Ulead programs easier to use than MGI. I use Ulead photo explorer with my digital dream (free from imira.com).This allows upload & storage of pics on-line direct from the interface. I think if you would have bought the DD at tescos you would also have got a free VHS tape for the same £99. At least I did. |
