Advantages: Easy to transfer pictures to PC, Web cam very easy to use, Upgrade with bigger memory cards - take 1000 pictures in one day
Disadvantages: Picture quality best in neutral conditions, deleting pictures from camera without PC not easy, no picture review screen on camera
A cheap and cheerful entry level camera, which has more features than we bargained for. It has two resolutions for taking pictures, the highest being 640 x 480, which still leaves room for hundreds of pictures. Picture quality indoors can be a a bit hit and miss. It's fine in a well lit room, but sometimes pictures can be a bit dark, or if the flash is used they can be very overexposed. Best picture quality we have had so far was on a fine spring day outdoors - every picture was clear and sharp, with great exposure. In short this is a good camera for taking on your hols and snapping as many pictures as you like, but not the best choice for indoor photography unless the light is right. Transfering pictures is done via a usb cable. Set up and installation went perfectly. To transfer pictures is a simple case of selecting pictures (you can choose individual pics or click a button to select all) and then choosing a directory to save them in as you would in windows. Very simple and very fast. I haven't used it as a webcam over the net but I have watched myself on my screen. (Starting the camera software defaults to video mode.) Picture quality is good, but again you would be advised to check the light levels. As an added bonus you can take small videos (avi files) but note that the camera must be attached to the PC to do so. Excellent for beaming clips of family round the world :) In conclusion - more features than you would expect at this price, but as you would expect it's not a perfect camera.

- 11/05/02 Like you say it soundslike a good starting camra and for maybe posting images on websites, emails etc. I have to say that for printing out pictures I wouldn't go for anything less than 1.3 megapixels. Good that you pointed out the pros and cons to this camera. |
