This reliable little camera is confusing to use. (Fujifilm Finepix F10)

Disadvantages: Confusing symbols on the menu

I bought this camera via the internet, and as it came from France I was slightly disadvantaged by the French language instruction leaflet! Although i have had this camera for over a year, I still find it confusing to use. The functions are indicated by rather obscure symbols (white hands, yellow cameras, and a flashing UP sign), and I often have to guess their meaning. I know that more modern versions have the functions indicated by words plus an explanation - and this would be a real help to me.

Having said this, I still manage to achieve excellent results with this camera. The 6.3 megapixels produce very clear images, which are nicely balanced regarding colour and brightness. The 3x zoom operates very smoothly and the camera is very compact. The size of the camera means that it fits neatly into my bag or pocket, and even though I do not use a camera case, the silver casing and the viewing screen remain unscratched so that it still looks pretty much like new.

I am happy with my purchase, but I looked very carefully at menu function symbols when buying a similar priced camera for my son, to make sure that it was not as obscure as the F10.

Summary: There are now cameras available which are easier to use
